It's not for a while (Feb 25th) but if the streak is still alive then there's a decent open mile at the USATF New England indoor meet at Harvard. Nate Jenkins usually runs, that would be a pretty entertaining showdown.

You know, if
one person, just one person does it they may think he's really sick and
they read his blog. And if two people, two people do it, in harmony,
they may think they're strange and they won't take either of them.
And three people do it, three, can you imagine, three people running fast miles every day. They may think it's an
organization. And can you, can you imagine fifty people a day,I said
fifty people a day running fast miles every day. And friends they may thinks it's a movement.
And that's what it is , the joemac Anti-junk miles Movement, and
all you got to do to join is run a fast mile tomorrow and the next day. And the next day.
Joe:
Never having run with a Garmin, I have a technical question. Are you able to get feedback fast enough during the mile that you can adjust your pace? In other words, do you know with 400, 200, 100 meters left to go that you need to accelerate to get under 5?
"Movement"? is that all.
I was thinking it was a Cult. Damn, I want to join a Cult so bad.

. . . that was terrible. If you wanna end Junk Miles and stuff, you gotta run FAST!
Yea, my Garmin is really accurate, in fact when I first bought it I didn't really believe it would be that accurate so i took it to the track and it was spot on. I am not very big on technology but I have to say for the solo runner it is a must have. The screen of the Garmin is much like the screen of a treadmill as it offers distance change every hundredth of a mile so yea you can eyeball your splits for anything really.
Arlo would be proud. Although there may be lots of younguns on here who don't get the reference. Thanks for the chuckle.
If you're not the lead dog, the view never changes.

Must be the politically correct version. Originally if two guys sang it in harmoney the army wouldn't take either one because they'd know they were queers.
Actually, the original lyrics are, "And if two people, two people do it, in harmony,
they may think they're both f****** and they won't take either of them."
yes, I did edit the lyrics there - I want to die knowing that I've never said or written the word Arlo used or the n word.
A commendable and noble goal. Just remember to keep in mind the context and era that the usage of words comes from. Is Huckleberry Finn any less of an American classic because of it's frequent use of the n word? I'm sure Arlo's reference was more to the narrow mindedness of the Army than to demean anyone's sexual orientation.
Joe - If you're going to be in your hometown area around Christmas, the Pearl River Holiday Festival at Rockland Community College on Monday, Dec. 27 still has their alumni mile in the middle of the high school meet. Meet information: http://ny.milesplit.com/files/ny/entries/xc10/pearlriver.pdf
not a typo:
4.42.44
Wow that meet looks cool on the 27th, I am going to try to make it. Man I have run at RCC in like 6 or 7 years.
Thanks!!!
Any other Mile races coming up out there?
i think you can go sub 4:50 everyday next month if you want to, i was thinking this would actually hurt you but it sounds like it's helping you!!

Younguns? I'm 21- but who doesn't know Alice's Restaurant? One of the best parts of Thanksgiving!
I don't want to speak too soon, but I feel really good.
In my experience it is when I feel this good I begin to feel invincible and I end up getting injured. So I want to be very cautious and listen to my body the next couple of days and get the rest and nutrition I need.
IE. Go to bed early and drink moderately.

I'm not Joe, but I recently got a Garmin FR60 with footpod - much cheaper. Unlike a GPS system, it works on treadmills and in deep forests / built-up areas. You can set the display to show pace per mile, and it responds to changes within about 2sec. You can program reps and it beeps with a few metres to go and 'counts you down' to the finish.
This has opened new doors in training - I often can't make it to the track, but if our coach has some long-rep session, it's easy to do on trails or the road. Thoroughly recommended.
Only problem is when it snows. I think the footpod got a bit confused and told me I was doing 3:30 miles on the way to work last week ;-)
