I recently ran a half marathon with an average heart rate of about 167. I just tested my VO2 Max and was told my lactate threshold was at 157. Can someone explain this relationship? How long can one race above their lactate threshold? Thanks.

it's the velocity at which you run at, not your heart rate, that is important in LT. And just out of curiousity, did they take blood and measure your lactate, or where they just using the air exchange? Also a VO2 max test is not the proper test to find blood lactate. So basically whoever gave you this test, either you misunderstood, or they're idiots
As you get fitter, your ability to maintain faster paces for longer periods of time will improve. In terms of measured lactate thresholds and VO2max, your lactate threshold should increase, as a percentage of your VO2max (until they both reach their plateau).VO2max tests methods can vary, and how lactate threshold is defined can vary.Using heartrate to estimate intensities is convenient, but heartrates can vary from day to day for a number of reasons (heat, stress, anxiety, previous training, donating blood, ...).In a long race, your heartrate can increase, for the same effort, as your body temperature rises, and blood volume decreases.

Heart rate is a poor metric.
Also, there are many lactate thresholds.
How long between the race and the test. Fitness changes over time.
