Team player? Baller?
Team player? Baller?
looks like he's gonna have a big senior year. beer miles are obviously starting to pay dividends.
Give it a rest. You're the same fanboy bandwagoners all geeked out after his 3.53 last summer.
Oregon would have been 2nd if he had been top 30, which he very reasonably could have done.
O Rlly? Ya Rlly! doofus
give the guy a break. He did enough for oregon last year to last a life time. Pac-10s NCAAs, crazy.
It's all about Nationals, baby.

Acosta, a fifth year senior (i.e., older than most) who in 2005 was the Footlocker High School Cross country champ (i.e., he has had success in CC in the past), was injury free this year, and managed to get his 8K time down below 24 minutes (23:43 for 8th at PAC-10 a few weeks ago). So coming into this race, he had no excuses. Quite simply, he tanked.
Grow up. It happens. Remember Jenny Barringer? Does that diminish what she accomplished as a runner? Hardly. It's nice to see the boards light up when the middle schoolers have break for turkey day.
Seemed like Lananna had a somewhat haphazard plan for him. He was out aggressively with Mercado, which might not have suited him. NCAA 10K XC has never been a place for big performances out of him, but he should be fine in the 1500-5000.

Who?
Funny how Acosta was making simultaneous posts on DyeStat, TrackShark, letsrun during nationals the first year or two(while redshirted or injured), getting as much publicity for any non-participant as humanly possible. The year Oregon won, Acosta posed with the team trophy despite having little to do with the win. Now Acosta runs crappy and is nowhere to be found except for a couple "anonymous" posts on this thread.
He had a bad race. Can't we leave the kid alone. Most of us don't know him. Maybe he was sick, felt tired or what ever. I when I have a bad race I don't want people rubbing it in. I understand some people just hate Oregon...I think Rupp had a lot to do with that. But come on people. Lets not behave like kids.
Just putting in the miles in the fall to get ready for a huge track season in the spring. sub-3:35 for him.
The kid is a f***ing miler not a 10k runner.
How times did El G win D1 nationals, World XC, World Juniors XC, the 10K at the world championships, the Olympics.
How many 10ks did El G even win?
It doesn't matter, he is a 1500m runner.

well I think they had higher expectations for him because he won foot locker XC in high school.
by the way El G wouldve cleaned up every american in the 10 if he had wanted to. They guy ran 12:50 and had an OG at 5000 meters. Just correcting you on that
anyway, I hope acosta busts some big times this summer, or maybe sooner

All you did was post facts, and people are jumping on you to "grow up" ?? What nonsense. Look, you and others shouldn't be celebrating his failure, but it is the other posters that actually need to grow up. RUNNING IS A SPORT. And what happens in other sports?? People cheer for some teams/individuals and root against others. And sometimes they call out athletes that fail. These guys get tons of love and attention and adulation when they succeed, so why isn't someone allowed to point out when they tank?? Jesus, running fans need to grow up and accept that with praise and adulation also comes criticism, and get over that.
For example, last year, Ray Allen, who has had a brilliant career, and was shooting the lights out in a couple games against the Lakers, suddenly went colder than a witch's tit and couldn't hit ANYthing. It was pathetic. So guess what, I said to anyone who would listen: ' Jesus, Ray Allen blew it. If he hadn't choked, the Celts would have won the series.' Am I allowed to say that? Is Ray Allen too good and too nice a guy for me to say anything bad about his sporting performance? Of course I am allowed to. So if someone wants to point out that AJ Acosta, who often likes to praise himself, had a bad race, so be it. The guy kicked ass last spring and got lots of love, and now he tanked in this race, and shouldn't be surprised to hear some negative comments from FANS OF THE SPORT, since that is what SPORTS FANS DO. Or maybe there should be a rule that no one is ever allowed to point out a poor performance by a good runner again?? Oh, that would be swell.

So is Dorian Ulrey (who has ran 3:35 and ran in a World Championships in the 1500 while a collegian). Doesn't seem to stop him from doing well at 10k XC. Hell, he wasn't even a Footlocker national champion in HS! If you think AJ coming in anywhere over 50th at nationals is good, you are a retard.

I notice that you never sign your name when you criticize, pussy.
He was in high school when he was a frequent poster, but yeah, he did post a little during his beginning years of college too. He's stopped because he has matured, not because he has ran crappy. When he got 2nd in the 1500 last year he didn't jump on websites and gloat. I've actually met the kid a few times, type A personality sure...a good guy, absolutely. Was he a good guy 5-6 years ago, I have no freaking clue.
