What kind of freshman 8k PRs do you expect from certain caliber HS runners when they enter college xc?
For example what 8k PR do you reasonably expect a 9:20 HS 2miler to have in after his freshman year of NCAA XC? Sub-26? Sub-25:30?
Just trying to get a sense of how well I did this freshman xc season compared to me HS track times. I have friends who ran 9:10-20 in HS for 3200 but have not cracked 26 in the 8k while others who ran 9:30ish already ran low 25s.
Add about 10 minutes to your 5k time, for a rough estimate.
This isn't the rule and I was surprised, but a guy I coached went from 17:30 5k in HS to 25:50 8k in college. I coach at a small school, so we usually get kids who are talented but way underdeveloped.

Dusting off this old thread with a real example.
HS: 9:20 3200
Frosh XC: 25:30 8K (on a relatively flat, but soft course)
Frosh Outdoor: 14:40 5000
I'm not thrilled with progress. Had hoped to go sub 25, sub 14:30.
