Flanagan won $110,000 in prize money: $65,000 as overall runner-up, an additional $40,000 for winning the USA women's title and a $5,000 time bonus for breaking 2:29. Flanagan's performance was the best placing by an American at this race since Kim Jones finished second in 1990 in 2:30:50.

Nike will most assuredly be giving her some bonus money for coming in 2nd place as well.
Shalane must have received at least 200,000 just for toeing the line from NYRR. I don't know for certain, but that is what Ritz received a few years ago.
If Shalane decides to stick with marathoning, which I'm sure she will based on the incredible payday she just earned, I think she will eventually become the best American to have ever run the distance.
The pace started out slow today, but when it came time to throw down, she matched the pushes and even made some of her own. Shalane was beaten by a more experienced (and faster) marathon runner, but the way she hung in there after falling off the lead pack was incredible. Give her some time, experience, and a race where people don't start out afraid to race, and she will light it up.
Don't quote me on this but I believe U.S. championships cannot pay appearance fees, but I could be wrong.
I would be surprised if that were true ... otherwise Shalane would have debuted at the Nike sponsored Chicago Marathon and would have been paid handsomely there.
I don't think being the US Champion of the marathon means much "title" wise, although your shoe company will reward you for that.
Just knowing how much money is made doing an appearance fee, if NYRR didn't give Shalane some money to show up, she would be better off financially running a different major marathon.

Doesn't make sende that she would run NY without an appearance fee. If you're a pro and you can run 2 a year you gotta make a living.

Agreed, but Shalane has the potential to run some of the fastest marathons ever. When she was in high school and college she was notorious for going out too hard. If she continues to keep that in check and gains the experience necessary for the marathon distance, she could be one of the greats. The way she fought to get 2nd place was incredible.
I wouldn't be surprised if she sets a new American Record.
Can't take away from Joanie, but I think Shalane will go sub 2:20 and thensome Maybe I'll get bashed for that (maybe??) but even those who don't think she will run sub 2:20 must admit she has the potential to do so based on her track times.
shalane ran a great race but i don't remember her falling off the lead pack anytime during the race?
Dont take the lead unless you are trying to drop the field. She did not do this. If she had she may have covered the move from the winner and who knows.

You are incorrect. This isn't the USATF Outdoor Track Championships. The Women's US Marathon Championships is being held in conjunction with the New York Marathon. If your premise were to hold true, they wouldn't let non-US nationals in the race, either.

In one of the Ritz articles, Salazar said he's paid by Nike, not his athletes. Does Schumacher have the same deal?
if, by "at least", you meant six figures for appearance, and at least $50k from nike for the US champs win, plus perhaps a $25k double dip for 2nd at a marathon major, then yes, she made "at least" that much....
