Nike will most assuredly be giving her some bonus money for coming in 2nd place as well.
Shalane must have received at least 200,000 just for toeing the line from NYRR. I don't know for certain, but that is what Ritz received a few years ago.
If Shalane decides to stick with marathoning, which I'm sure she will based on the incredible payday she just earned, I think she will eventually become the best American to have ever run the distance.
The pace started out slow today, but when it came time to throw down, she matched the pushes and even made some of her own. Shalane was beaten by a more experienced (and faster) marathon runner, but the way she hung in there after falling off the lead pack was incredible. Give her some time, experience, and a race where people don't start out afraid to race, and she will light it up.
