We don't speak about Tekeye. He was forced out of Ethopia. There is a reason he is not referenced in "Endurance". I am surprised Haile brought him up in an interview.

I recall a commentator saying Geb had a brother who's a "pretty useful marathon runner." Either way, he grow up in a family of I think at least 8 children (I think). Is it hard to believe that two of them were runners?

Geb's brother proves that Geb is closer to 43yrs old than 37 or so... guy is sick.. ran 2:03 close to 40 yrs old

In the Flotrack series, he mentions his brother and how he (brother) gave him (Geb) his first pair of racing shoes.

it is rather unusual the way she introduces there is no record of geb's brother running. it is, in most ways, not relevant to the rest of that blog article. also the way pena is introduced...i know it's a blog, but the flow of ideas is not very linear and even in a tangential sense disappointing.

that's coming from me, who often goes all over the place, in my mind and on paper.

i know times are changing, and the new york times with that, but can't "the world's finest news source" have someone write about running on a level that is not so blah? i had harsher words but it seems silly to get too inflamed by something like this.

still, since runners (especially of the marathon), as another times article posed, are this affluent and successful bunch, shouldn't we have someone covering our sport in an articulate manner? i am not saying liz robbins does not have the potential to be articulate, but make that potential energy kinetic.

Publishing "Haile" and "Liar" in the same sentence, rather than challenging the NY Times directly yourselves, reduces the editors to gossip columnists rather than responsible journalists.

he became a citizen of the netherlands on december 31st 1993.

Haile was also quoted as trying to decide whether to run "Chicago or Boston in the fall" last spring. I'm guessing he just gets the cities mixed up, or he was misquoted.

You won't see Haile back in New York. The NY Times article is the reason.
