Plus, it looks like it's mostly college students, who presumably have never worked a day in their lives, not a bunch of 58 year olds. People go nuts when governments try to ease back on entitlements that they can no longer afford.

The French have the balls to go out and put up a fight when the powers that be take away something they have always had. They do it everytime and so maintain a much better lifestyle than Americans.
Americans roll over and play dead whenever govt or corporations are taking more and more away from us. Post retirement medical plans, pension plans, libraries, public schools where you don't have to pay fees for every little thing, our right to privacy, to face our accuser in court, etc. And now they are coming for our Social Security and Medicare. And you will roll right over, thinking how tough you are to do without.
We can afford 400 billionaries and $1 trillion per year in unaudited "defense" spending. But nothing for the citizenry

I just read an interesting article this month about how americans have this perverted hatred towards europeans for standing up for themselves (wish I could remember the source...blast).

It's nice to see Europeans come on this bored and talk about how Americans really are. It's easy to do that when work weeks are only 32 or 35 hours long with paid vacations out the ass. I'm not saying they're not needed, but I'll just inform you that it's about 3x what they spend on the entire department of defense, which does a whole lot more than just blow people up. It employs millions.
Before you're so quick to take funds from the DoD to go towards libraries, public schools, etc., why don't you suggest taking some of the non-discretionary funds (from the pot that's 3x as big) from welfare-and-friends.

Why do the regular tax payers in this country just sit idle while they get screwed?
Here in Chicago, the police superintendent just announced police are going to be taken from low crime areas and re-deployed into high crime districts.
So, the people who pay the taxes and care for their neighborhood get less police protection, and it gets sent to the ghetto and hispanic gang hot spots, where the residents pay little or zero property taxes, rely on public aid to live and commit the most crimes.
Maybe the tax payers should launch a violent protest to show their displeasure?

I disliked the French just because it was the typical American thing to do until my wife got a job she couldn't turn down in France and we moved.
The quality of life in France is so much better it's unreal. They do stick up for what they want and benefit from it.
