If you were to put together an all time DMR, who would you have on the 1200 leg?
I thought this was the more intruiging question since most of the other legs seem fairly clear cut

Coe
Of course Sebastain Coe: at 1:41.73 and 3:29.77 he's the best 800/1500 runner for time -- and he's a racer.
that's funny that the above poster said the exact same thing as I did at the exact same time -- I came back to add that he also held the 1000m WR at 2:12.18 (second only to Ngeny's 2:11.96WR).
So for a 1200 leg, I would think it's gotta be Coe, or in absence of Coe, a top form Ngeny.
Wouldn't a top-form Ngeny clearly be above Coe? Faster PRs in the two races above and below 1200 -- I'm not saying Ngeny was better all-time, but was clearly faster.
I think either Morceli or Steve Cram could take either of them
You can make a very convincing arguement of that -- I just remember watching Coe anchor the WR 4x800m relay on a cold, windy day at the Crystal Palace, all by himself, with a final split of 1:43.9. He ran completely unchallenged, alone and the conditions were poor. But Ngeny does have the numerical advantage.
I'll have to stick with El.G
The Roc
but el g would be on the 1600. i guess we're assuming mj and kipketer on the other 2 spots?
Works out to roughly 8:28? Not bad at all!!
Closer to 8:45-:50 I think. 2:40ish + 43.xx + 1:41.xx + 3:42ish = 8:45ish with the points all added up.
This would be a good race...
1200m Ngeny, Lagat
400m Johnson, Watts
800m Kipketer, Coe
1600m El G, Morcelli
Lets make this more challenging, what about only current runners, in the shape that they are in right now? Last year's outdoor times will count.
World Team A
1200 - Japhet Kimutai
400 - Tyree Washington
800 - Wilfred Bungei
1600 - El G
World Team B
1200 - Mehdi Baala
400 - Ezra Sambu
800 - Yuriy Borzakovskiy
1600 - Lagat
Team USA
1200 - Krummenacker
400 - Tyree Washington
800 - Sam Burley
1600 - Alan Webb or Jason Lunn

More like 2:40-2:42, 44.0, 1:42 high and a 3:45 1600m leg. That's about as fast as you'd get b/c the last two guys would be running all alone.
Sorry, I was using the 1000 time of 2:12 vs. the 1200 time of ???. My bad.
even then, you'll need a team for them to be racing against atleast for the first 1000m of the 1600m leg. My brief research suggests that Spain is the only nation with a chance in hell of keeping up with a Kenyan DMR squad.
Team Kenya
Athlete (2003 SBs)
-----------
Paul Korir (1:45.0/3:30.7)
Wilfred Bungei (1:42.x)
Ezra Sambu (44.43A)
Corenelius Chirchir (3:31.1)
Team España
Athlete (2003 SBs)
------------------
Juan Carlos Higuero (1:46.0/3:31.6)
Antonio Manuel Reina (1:44.37)
David Canal (45.01)
Reyes Estévez (3:32.8)
France could give it a go, too:
Chekhemani (2:17.40 1000m)
Raquil (44.79)
Lacasse (1:44.61)
Baala (3:28.98)

I find it curious that Coe's 1000 PR is more than 30 seconds slower than his 800 PR, yet both of you would add less time than that to his 1000 to get a 1200 time for him.
USA would win if there was free agency in track
france could probably put together a "B" team that would beat the U.S.
sad.
