I was planning to wear the Lunaracer2 in the NYC Marthon. I've worn the Lunaracer2 in a half and my achilles was a little sore. I just wore them again last night for 6 miles and my achilles is sore today. Would it be wise to go with a firm lightweight trainer like the Lunar Elite for the race.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
I've had the same experience with Lunaracer 2. I am using the Streak XC 2 for races and Nike Skylon for training, both of which does not make the achilles tendon sore.
By sore, do you mean sore from rubbing or achilles tendonitis-like sore? I use the Streak XC 2 for short intervals and the Lunar Racer 2 for longer tempos and fartlek workouts on the road. My legs actually feel better in the Racers than in the Streak XC.
I'm getting achillies tendonitis type of pain from running in this shoe.
I ran the NYC Marathon last year in the original Lunaracer and had no achilles problems. I'm not it is the shoe or me. I'm not in as good shape this year.
Either way I don't want to miss extended time because of an achilles issue. Could anyone recommend a lightweight trainer preferably by Nike.

If it's rubbing, then it's just shoe construction.
If it's the tendon feeling bad, then you'll want a higher heel so as to provide immediate relief.
Most modern running shoes aggravate the achilles because (1) the back of the heel of the shoe is hard vs soft, (2) the back of the shoe is way too high and therefore presses into the achilles with each step, and (3) the back of the heel curves inward into the achilles.
To preserve the health of your achilles tendones, look for shoes where the back of the heels are (1) made from soft material, (2) are no higher than 1 3/4 inches from the base of the shoe, and (3) do not curve excessively inward into the achilles.
Not everyone can run in the same shoes. Because there is a new model, doesn't mean it will feel the same as the old. Lower heel is better. Try the Streak XC 2 or the Streak 3. See if the presto or lunarelite feel better for regular training runs.
Boomer- If you are looking for a bit more heel lift here are 3 Nike options: (1) Lunar Elite (firmer ride), (2) Lunar Fly (closest to LR ride), or (3) Lunar Swift (in between Lunar Elite / Lunar Fly). These are going to be heavier than Lunaracer but will allow you to get into a relatively lightweight shoe that should alleviate the strain on your Achilles.
