Our note: Super impressive.
From Paul Carmany:
I just wanted to give you the heads up that former Wisconsin decathlon All-American Joe Detmer set the world double decathlon record tonight at the 2010 World Championships for Ultra Multi Events in Lynchburg, Va. The former record had lasted for eight years, after being set by Kip Janvrin (two years after he was a U.S. Olympian in the decathlon).
Here’s the article I wrote about the meet:

.
Detmer, who ran a 4:04.11 1,500 when he finished as NCAA decathlon runner-up in 2007, used his running ability to his advantage in the two-day, 20-event competition in hot temperatures. Here were his running event marks:
100 – 10.93
200 – 22.58
400 – 50.43
800 – 2:02.23
1,500 – 4:26.66
3,000 – 10:25.99
3,000 Steeplechase – 12:02.00
5,000 – 18:25.32
10,000 – 40:27.26 (the 20th and final event)
110 Hurdles – 15.01
400 Hurdles – 53.83
His most impressive field events included the long jump (23-11.5), high jump (6-6) and pole vault (15-11).
