I know this is letsrun, but for those of you who've managed to convince a lady to date you, have you ever broke up with a girl because of running?

Yes, I once broke up with a girl because of running. She ran too slow. If I couldn't respect her running then I couldn't respect her.
Sadly she was the mother of my two kids.

My wife said if I didn't quit running she'd leave me. Man am I going to miss her...
I've had troubled relationships because of my commitment to training. However, when I met my future wife, there was no problem. We both "get it" and enjoy our training time - whether solo or together.
Yes! She kept saying running is stupid. Even after I told her how much I love running, and everything about running.
My ex-wife complained about my running. I don't think that was a cause, just a symptom.
Of course, my ex-wife complained about everything.
My fiancee though not a runner at all gets it,and knows its part of who I am, and knows if I don't get my run in I'll be a little moody and such.
No. For the running girlfriends, it was no problem. For the nonrunning ones, I managed to pretty much get all my running in when they weren't around. I did have the benefit of a highly flexible schedule.

Trust me, you wouldn't want to see.
I actually dated a girl for 2 years that was faster than me.
She won a D1 track national title in a distance event. I didn't run in college but usually run around 16:30 for 5k in road races. We could train together. In races, she could beat me by more than 30 seconds (5k). But, we never raced each other.
We broke up because I couldn't handle the situation. She didn't really care about running and often toyed with the idea of quitting to join a sorority. Running meant the world to me. I heard she has 2 kids now, married, etc. I'm a engineer at a lame job, not married. Sweet story!
I won't commit to the girl Im currently seeing because she doesn't run. Im just not that attracted to her.
Guys don't make passes at girls with fat...you know what. Well, she isn't fat, but ya, I think I could do better. How do I break this to her? I have been pursuing other girls on the side.

Don't be a dick, just tell her you don't want to go out any more.

How do you break it to her? You say, "Sorry, this isn't working out for me". Yesterday.
Then head over to the track and find yourself a real woman.
I am such a douchebag that girls who date me really don't care about running. They're mostly sluts who have had trains run on them in the past. The girl I've been with for 4 months now knows I'm an emotionally abusive alcoholic but that's ok because she's a cokewhore haha. It works out real well. I'll call her at 1 in the morning and she'll come over to bang and then I get up in the morning and run and she'll go work at the nail salon. I'm thinking about popping the question. Thoughts?

Who are we talking about here? No reason to not mention her name.

My experience was a bit different. I dated one "chick" on the track team, although she wasn't a serious runner. She was more of an intersex type, tall and flat chested. Hardly a real woman. Ultimately, she didn't do it for me.

You're not really that much of an asshat, are you rojo?
Idk, the girl I'm seeing right now doesn't really understand being passionate about something or the dedication necessary to be great. I often feel like I'm choosing between her and running, which I should never have to do.
Anybody who answers yes on this thread is the epitomy of why freaking runners don't get respect. Breaking up with a girl over a sport, over a hobby, over an activity is just plain dumb. Sorry I have to be blunt about it, but its true. I get that you guys are passionate about what you do, and yeah thats great but how about showing some passion for the significant women in your life?
My ex would complain about me and running. She told me I was spending too much time running, and do you know what I did, I decreased my mileage so I could spend more time with her. Do you know what happened, my times improved.... weird. My point is this, not everything in life is about running, take care of the other things in your life and running will come as well.
yes i have, at our league meet i told her before prelims that if she didn't make the 800 finals I'd break up with her. i thought it would be good motivation. she didn't make the finals though and that was the end of that relationship. Us runners just want to find a good runner to have fast babies with.
