Three years ago I used to run 70 plus miles a week with tempos, races etc.
Kids, mortgage and work have since replaced my running. I want back in. Have not run a step in at least two tears. How long I ask?
btw, I'm 36

Need some more information... like how much more do you weigh now, are you wanting to race, how much time do you have to actually run, and what is your social security number?
Two years of detraining, so two years to get back to 70 MPW. But you won't get there.
I'm 40... I went from 0 miles for almost 20 years to 80 mpw in about 8 months... I bet you'll get to 70 in 6 or less if you want, as long as you are careful and don't get injured...
(BTW, I lost about 80 lbs during that time too...)
Ok. More information.
5'9", 140, Drink beer, eat like crap. I just have good genes I guess. I have done some occasional hiking here and there and a few bike rides from time to time.I have about 45 minutes in the morning if I change my schedule around and get up super early. I could probably join a buddy of mine on the weekend for a long run. Yes I would like to return to racing at some point. Thanks guys.
That is impressive oldish dude. How were you able to increase the mileage safely?
I'm 60 and went from 25 miles per week to 60 - 70 in about 6 months. You just have to be patient and go easy on long runs. 20 miler on the week end with a couple of 10 - 12's in the middle of the week. This has to be considered a base period, so no speed work or intensity to the runs. Even at that, I had a few down days but overall was able to increase mileage with no major injury issues.
Depends on if your question is how fast can you get there or how fast should you smartly get there will minimal risk of injury. If your question is the later, I would say 1.57 years
Yes biggus. I could run 70 next week, but don't think that will help my cause. 1.57 years it is.
Thank you Scott. Nice to hear real stories of success.
So how fast was you running three year ago?
Low 15's for 5k. Most of my training was on hilly trails at 6:00 to 8:00 m/mile pace. It depended on the terrain.
Come on man, what state are you from?
Hint... it's out west
What is your mile time on the track?
4:19 many years ago now? I have no idea
wow
