Maybe at this moment, or more specifically when Chris was in peak 5k shape for the season. If Geb dedicated half of a season to the 5k, I'd still take him for the win.
Geb ran 26:51 just two years ago and is obviously in shape right now.
5,000 PR is 16 seconds better than Big Sol. A full straightaway.

I do not think that he has the speed and mechanics for a very fast 10,000 any more. He has re-engineered his stride and does not run with spikes much if at all at this point. He also does not win races with fast 300m finishes (and it has been a while since he won a race with his track MO -- see Atlanta for his track MO, which involved a 25 or faster 200).
My guess is that we have seen the last WR from Geb, although I could be surprised by the master.

You haven't a clue. You said the same thing about Haile in Beijing. Remember, when Haile whas just 5 seconds behind Bekele?
Haile still trains with the best 10000m runners in the World, you know, up there in Addis Ababa? It's in Ethiopia, thousands of very fast young runners there.
Geb is a god. with a little g. His mystic is it just makes one just wonder if. He could, but he won't. He doesn't need to prove anything to anyone anymore. At least not to runners. Maybe perhaps the last jewel on his crown is the gold of marathon.
Will he win Gold in London 2012? I don't think so. Younger runners will put him under pressure. When he can run his own race, he always wins and often in incredibly fast times.
Solinsky doesn't have the change of pace to shake off Hailer this year, but maybe that will change next year?
I wouldn't be surprised if Haile runs 2.03 again though.

yeah I agree with you the last Olys pace was just jaw dropping. I was think WR pace, this is crazy. Yes the young guys there was like 2-3 guys running faster than Khannouchi's WR rec of Chicago marathon of past(i forget). Incredible and crazy I was shaking with disbelief.

I think the medals in the Bejing Olympic Marathon went to the right guys, three of the very best in the World. When was the last time that happened?
I think Geb could probably still go sub 13 (barely... if not then sub 13:10 for sure), and sub 27:00. He's still got the speed, and he can kick from far away. Great example was his last marathon, where his last kilometer was run in 2:36. Not a bad last k considering he'd run 41 before that.
He certainly couldn't go sub 26 the last 200 like he used to, but i wouldn't bet against him closing the last 800 in 1:56 or so.
If he wanted to he could run 26.40 or slightly quicker for 10000m He could have run low 59 at the Great North run last sunday but he ran the last few miles without pushing to the max.
