Some experts recommend a quick cold shower for the legs as a means to enhance recovery.
I imagine that there is no experimental evidence to support this recommendation. One would need to randomize a sufficiently large group of athletes under the same training regimen to either cold showering or no cold showering and then follow the two groups over time and compare them on a number of outcome measures such as, for instance, subjective leg soreness, tolerance to increased training volume, race performances, and muscle biopsies. So we would likely have to rely on anecdotal evidence and personal experience rather then experimental or quasi-experimental studies to form our opinion about cold showering for the legs.
Would someone who has tried this method be so kind to post his or her experience with this practice? Was it really helpful?
