So i'm having trouble understanding why I suck at racing at altitude if ive been living at altitude for a good 3 months already. Anyways long story short I can't break 16 minutes for the 5k at altitude but apparently can drop down and run sub 31 for 10k on the roads. Twice in the last 6 weeks ive run a terrible race at altitude and yet can drop down the week after and run a personal best. Guys who smoke me at altitude I can smoke down at sea level.
30:46 10k sea level versus 16:06 5k at altitude seems like a big difference to me.
does it just take a while to get use to racing at altitude or whats the deal? I feel like at altitude I can't push myself that hard and legs are just heavy.
I'm training consistently but obviously training paces are much slower than at sea level. When I drop down i feel like im in the best shape of my life so I just can't understand why I can't put together a good race at altitude. Is there something I'm missing? Like am I suppose to taper longer for races at altitude or whats the secret?
