I think this might be the same runner who finished 5th at NCAA cross country nationals a couple years ago for Iowa. Is she banned from competing in races now? I apologize if this has already been talked about.

Is this true? Rachel Marchand on drugs? Does anyone know if htis goes back to her college years? She sorta came out of no where one year and was pretty competitive in the big ten.
I know the Marchand family is this is not a huge surprise to me.
Whaaaaat?!?! Yea she finished 5th in 2008 I believe for Iowa. While she was a good runner, it certainly was a breakthrough race to finish in the top 5. Wowww....
She had plenty of comapny in the Puerto Rican Doping Doghouse- other busts for T/F, Weightlifting and softball.
A Caribbean runner doping? That'd be a first.
How did she get Puerto Rican citizenship?

By being Puerto Rican you idiot.
her dad
Did a search on her and looks like she ran a race this morning in her hometown. Pretty decent time. How long does it take for EPO to stop working? Is she allowed to race or has she been banned from racing? Please do some research Wejo.
i heard she's racing in valpo this weekend against her agent's (or lawyer's?) suggestion.
it's funny when you look at the picture accompanying the article...i'm sure most people automatically assume she's on the darker women. ha.
"I'm looking at it as a team competition," Marchand said. "One of the things that is cool is the hospital is promoting Porter health, kind of going out and saying we're physicians, and we're out there exercising and trying to promote a healthy lifestyle."
Marchand's team is sponsored by Northwest Indiana Cardiovascular Physicians.
This is from a write-up before the race this morning.
This is more than just a little insane.
The 2 year ban needs to be increased to 6 years. Then, if the athlete caught turns state evidence in order to identify which doctors/coaches/agents were involved in the procuring of and supervising of use, consider reducing the ban to 3 years or so and prosecuting the others through the courts.

Her IAAF bio shows her as competing for the USA - is she part way through the process of transferring, or have the IAAF not updated their site yet?
http://www.iaaf.org/athletes/biographies/country=USA/athcode=245749/index.htmlBeen wondering all day why this isn't a big story. Former NCAA stud gets busted for EPO while running for Puerto Rico at a championship race. Sets a record for the country and loses her medals and the record is erased. Found out today that her dad is a doctor and that she works for the hospital. Where did she get the drugs? Is she banned? She was going to run in the Olympics for Puerto Rico. Wejo, Rojo can you find out what happened?
Assuming that this sticks she will not run in the Olympics until 2016, and that would require an interpretation of the rules that I am not sure about. Specifically, the IOC bans runners from the Olympic cycle when they test positive for a major violation. If the rule is that the BAN is in a cycle then you are out, her ban might extend until summer 2012 and go into the beginning of the next cycle. However, I think it means the start, not the end of the ban.

"I left a good job at a pharmaceutical company to represent Puerto Rico..."
I'm not sure if that statement really helps her case.
Since the games were in July 2010, the A sample tested soon after, this hit the news 12-August and since she denies doping, soon they will test the B-sample - does anyone know what the time limit is for that to take place?
Here dad is Puerto Rican. So she has always had "dual citizenship". However, please remember that Puerto Rico is a US territory, so there really isn't anything special about getting citizenship there.
I’m a D2 female runner. Our coach explicitly told us not to visit LetsRun forums.
