She was going to lose to Dehiba in the continental cup 1500 and clearly tried to hook her arm and pull her back. sidenote: dehiba is cute.

She certainly tried to grab her. I couldn't tell if she was reaching automatically as she fell, or tried to grab and missed and then fell.
it looked like she fell as a result of grabbing her and getting tangled up.

I didn't see the race. Side note: Dehiba is apparently a convicted DOPER under her old nationality.
Congrats to Edwards and Wurth-Thomas on medals.
Nancy did the right thing....FIGHT THE DOPERS!
Dehiba shouldn't even be in the race.

WWE Smackdown the Kenyan version.
on Universal Sports. Langat is a cheater. Nancy grabbed and attempted to slow down Hind. Nancy's attempt failed and she fell down when her stunt, on film, was rebuffed.
Congratulations Nancy Lagat! So convicted drug cheat Dehiba is now some of the Letsrun posters heroine because she's white and uses drugs? That seems to be the vibe I'm getting from some of the posts.
Langat definitely did that on purpose. You can see replays at a little over 2:00 in the video - http://www.universalsports.com/video/assetid=b79a172e-5ca6-4773-ad74-a00cf6a4d82c.html?__source=newsletter&cid=

How is the fact that people are upset over someone trying to screw her out of a win by vicious illegal tactics making her a hero? Where are you reading anything like this at all? Which posts could possibly give you that vibe? Honestly.
Yea that was ridiculous but I liked how the commentators made It sound it was by accident an She did it b/c she was trying so hard. Then when they showed it on replay they stayed quite b/c it was so obvious.
Alternative theory: Langat's arms were already swinging out really wide while she was in her kick. Dehiba suddenly inched closer to Langat, which caused Langat's already wide-swinging arm to naturally hook into Dehiba's.
That was honestly the first thing I thought upon seeing the replay. I'm still willing to believe that Langat grabbed her a bit on purpose in a desperate attempt to keep her from passing, but it seems like the initial contact was inadvertant.
SERIOUSLY that was an accident. Nancy Lagat form was going and her arms was swinging wide at the same time Dehiba drifted slightly towards Nancy. Dehiba arm appeared to accidently come in contact with Lagat who was tiring and the slight contact threw off Nancy's balance. After the contact and during her fall Nancy tired to hold her tiring body up and grabbed Dehiba's arm who had just impedded with Nancy's progress.
Neither of the two ladies appeared to purposely do anything to the other- it was accidently contact which happens. The thing that wasn't an accident was Dehiba taking PED's- I don't think she accidently collapsed and injected herself with PED's- that was intentionally back then. Hmmm how soon we forget!

Agreed. Not only that but she always seems to run with her arms really wide. You can tell this if you've seen her races in the past or even just at the Diamond League races this year. To me that's the thing that always stuck out about her and it was easy to pick her out in the field.
I watched it live and honestly I thought it was more of Dehiba's fault than Lagat's. Why did she pull up so close to her instead of just running in lane 2 for the final 100m? It almost looked like she was trying to force Lagat to run into the rail inside lane 1- she had all 8 lanes to run in yet was easily trying to share lane 1 on the home straight.
Lagat's arms are always wide, it just seemed like as Dehiba was starting to merge into lane 1, she just happened to be caught in her stride. I was surprised they didn't tangle earlier on, but I would say definitely not Lagat's fault.
Nancy Langat clearly grabbed Dehiba's arm and pulled. You don't accidentally clutch someone's arm as you brush it.

Langat also moved into lane 2. Dehiba did not change position in the final straight.

http://a.imageshack.us/img294/6123/langat.pngThis is just about the most obvious attempt to grab a person I've ever seen. Both swing their arms a bit wide, true. On that final straight, Langat was swinging them wider than usual in the hopes of taking up more space, saw she was still getting passed, tried to unsuccessfully get an arm under her, and finally just had to grab her. One of the poorest shows of sportsmanship I've ever seen.
If she does not test positive for this race I would tell all of you idiots to shut up! If she is clean, then I must tell you that Langat blew it. She locked arms with her. I am one who believes that people deserve second chances. It is very easy to test positive in this day and age. Many athletes take supplements and medication that they do not think have are banned. If they serve their time and are now clean the performances should stand. Let's run has always been wrong on this subject. People deserve second chances. Do they deserve to be tested more regularly, yes!!!! If they pass their test like everyone else they are good to go.
HGH and EPO, apparently
"In January 2007 Dehiba was arrested on Charles de Gaulle International Airport together with her coach and husband Fodil after vials containing human growth hormone were found in her luggage. Both were released, but Fodil Dehiba will be investigated for illegal drug trafficking.[2] In 2006 Dehiba was found guilty of EPO doping, and received an IAAF suspension from February 2007 to February 2009. "
