So I have to feel this might be a subpar race for Leer, given what he's done before. Wiki shows his PR as 1:47.69. But still... Webb's already beating Will Leer!

Holy shit, I might consider hoping on the Webb bandwagon. I know its a 5 seconds off his PR, but I remember in 2007 when he ran that I was shocked because it was so much faster than he had previously run. So I went to iaaf.org and looked up his 800m progression. In 2004 and 2005 he "only" ran 1.46.09 and 1.47.13, respectively. He also ran 3:32 in both those years. In my mind, then, he is only 1-2 seconds off of the 800m form he needs to run 3.32 (especially considering Salazar has claimed he has been focusing on strength recently). At this rate of improvement he may very well run 3.32 by the end of the season. That would set him up pretty well for 2011 and 2012. I am impressed.

Whatever happened to Nate Brannen? What, like he's been MIA for years? He ran 3:52 at Pre last year for 3rd, was a semi-finalist at the World Champs. He was injured for much of this year and being a down year probably decided not to rush it back to focus on next year and the 2012 London Olympics. I did see he's racing a road mile September 18th in Maui against Ryan Brown and Brandon Shaw.

Salazar wasn't kidding about Webb's steep improvement curve recently. At this rate he could win the road mile coming up soon.

So where are all those morons NOW who wanted to write Webb off after ONE race--never mind the recovery from injury and no speedwork?

Aas I said at the time, give him a full year of training, then decide.

Webb is psycological weak

For a race that was won in 1:46, I wouldn't consider this a bad effort at all.

Its not a bad effort at all..why does webb get bashed one day and the next everyone is glorifying him. He is without a doubt our best miler ever...good for him...knew he would do this!

Willis has raced even more infrequently lately than Webb has, and you're all fixated on Webb, who appears to have finished about a second and a half behind Willis.

No, the best miler the U.S. has is Steve Scott. Webb has a long way to go to be considered better, overall, than SS.
