Symmonds Manned Up - Congrats.

Symmonds has looked good all year it was just his last 100m that I thought needed to improve. We're always used to him looking so strong at the end but he just couldn't finish as hard as he usually does - even at USA champs he looked like he was struggling to turnover. But he put it together nicely today and looked awesome. Congrats to Nick.

In the race today there was not the typical bunching and such that leads to him running a bit of a broken stride at times and he did not have to run out in lane 2 much, so he ran closer to than his style often leads to.

He did exactly what he wanted this year. He wanted to peak at the end of August to practice peaking for next years World Championships...he couldn't have nailed that any better with a PB on August 29th.

This is probably the confidence he needs to prove he can be a medal threat next year.

Good race by Symmonds, but he has a sub 1:43 in him. He could have run a sub 1:43 today but did not run the 3rd 200m hard. I would consider him to have "manned up" when he runs the 3rd 200m hard, and still have his devastating kick. I still think Symmonds and the other American middle distance runners lack the confidence to challenge the Kenyopians. There is more to come from Symmonds.

Excluding the two rabbits, that 800 was a race with six runners in it. Unlike most of the Diamond League 800s, getting stuck in traffic was never an issue.

Those two tend to be mutually exclusive. Especially in the 800m.

He is pretty weak. He will never medal.

Considering how fast it went out, getting stuck in traffic wouldn't have been much of an issue anyways for a guy like Symmonds coming from behind.

What did he run in Rieti? 1:43.76 or so? And you reach the non-debatable conclusion there is no way he can run sub 1:43?

What I said was that the poster had no idea what it took to run 1:43.

I did not say "under 1:43."

Symmonds has run in the 1:43's a few times.

Every time someone sells this dude short, he runs a new PR.

I do not think we have seen the cap on his talent or PR's yet.

I don't know if he can run 1:41.POINT, but it would not surprise me if he went under 1:43. at some time on the future.

He is a fearless runner, and a truly competitive guy.
