Alright, I would like to give some background regarding my injury before I ask for advice.
Well last spring track season in mid june, about 2 weeks before a meet, I was doing a fairly fast-paced training run (wearing racing flats mind you) of around 40 minutes in duration. It was during this run that I felt some extreme pain comming from my the back of my left foot. (errr- my ankle/heal?) I regret sticking it out in this run, I guess I felt I had something to prove because I could tell it was gonna give sooner or later. So after this "incident" I decide I am still going to race my last meet, so in the final 2 weeks I run maybe one or two times, find it very awkward and uncomfortable, not to mention painful! I try and compensate with my lost training time through bikeriding. So I run my last meet, the 3k on a friday night, I have the ankle all taped up and I run no where near what I was capable of- an 8:55, and end of running 9:30 something.
I decided after this that my season was done, it would be pointless to try and race again. So I take a planned 2 weeks completely off, and then try running again in an effort to build back a base for the upcomming cross season. It is now the first week in july and when I try to run again I feel the same pain... I decide to go to a walk-in medi clinic and see a dr... As dr's are, he says I might have achilees tendonitis and reccomends another 2 weeks completely off... I am now frustrated but stick to his advice.. in 2 weeks nothing has changed, same pain... so I get an x-ray done, we are now into august... the x-ray does not do anything, so then they send me in for a bone scan thinking its a stress fracture... that doesn't say much- just that their is "irregular blood flow in the left ankle"... so because I was not running from july-august I worked a manual labour job, but the dr.'s said that may be re-aggrivating the problem, so they reccommend I leave this work place and stay off my feet for 6 weeks!
by the way during this 6 weeks off I went to physio a few times which solved little/nothing.. and which I ended up leaving for financial reasons.
so recently, in october, after 6 weeks away from the manual labour job, I go back to the dr., she says i can resume training and STILL does not have a diagnosis for the injury... she reccomends an MRI, which where I live is a long wait- (mine isn't sched'd 'till april 2003)
so Now that I have resumed training, I am finding a constant reminder that the pain is still there... it seems whenever I push it too much in a run it will like snap or something, and after some runs is VERY sore and uncomfortable, and because of teh pain I need days off just to get it pain free again, very frustrating...
SO now i do not know what to do, I mean I can keep training and try and race in the winter, but I do not know if my problem will come back to haunt me, and I do not even know if I will be able to racein a few months...I have missed 3 months already.
I would rather be in a position of having to be in a cast for even a year KNOWING that this bullshit would be resolved, that training on an ankle you don't know what is wrong with....
they still have not diagnosed this thing...
any advice?????
THANKS
