Just watched the most recent interview with Salazar and he has put it out there for everybody to know. Before he was hesitant but now its cut and dry. Webb is the most talented runner in the US and once healthy will be running the roost from 800 to 5k and breaking AR's contending for medals.

Webb's great. The question is can he stay healthy? Darn straight he's talented. Then again there's Solinsky the hulk. He's not exactly a stealth threat to the title. Webb had his chance during the lack of distance talent years. I'm not dismissing him. There are too many guys now that'll give Webb a run for his money. I won't bet on him, no matter what Al Sal says.

All the talent in the world isn't going to get Alan Webb much with this "on again, off again career". It's painful to watch. He's losing lots and lots of time. You only get ten years give or take to write your legacy in this sport and then the younger guys eat you.
What is the deal? Is this injury we are talking about or are we dealing with somebody who doesn't really enjoy running all that much?
Is this a physical issue or is this psychological?
I was one of Webb's biggest defenders once. I was so happy when he went the Nike route because I knew he could make his incredible gift a full-time job. Now I'm beginning to question what's been going on.

I think you have to give Webb and Salazar until the middle of next year before you can judge how this will turn out. I'm betting on Webb doing very well next year.

Very true. I was referring to his dropping collegiate career to go pro under a good individual contract years back, not his switch to Salazar, but you are definitely right. There is reason to believe this will keep his training on the consistency train.
The key to a steady, healthy career is avoid disruption to the training.

Well, he could have just said, "I think Webb has what it takes to return to form and be competitive again." But he takes it a step further and says he thinks Webb will not only return to form, but set PRs at every distance from 800-10k and break more records. Why would he make a prediction like that if he didn't believe it? He really put his coaching reputation on the line making a statement like that.
I predict that Alan sets PRs in at least two events from 800-10k. I predict that he makes the World team in 2011. I also predict that he makes the Olympic team in 2012 and makes a final in at least one event.
Salazar is arguably the best distance coach in the country (shumacher, cook, and mammoth group are in there) and he is coaching the most talented group of young athletes this country has ever seen in Ritz and Rupp. Then Salazar picks up Webb and the group agrees as a whole that he is the most talented athlete he has ever coached. So that is a huge compliment to be saying about somebody. We aren't talking about college teams, we are talking about a coach that only picks up the best of the best so if he believes in Webb then so do I.
Webb will run sub 3:31 next year and sub 3:30 in 2012 and it will be the combination of pure god given talent and Salazars coaching. Add in Nikes resources and training partners like Rupp and Ritz and I sure the hell won't bet against him.

An athlete has to have confidence in his coach in order for the relationship to work successfully. Webb has an unbelievable amount of talent, but his mind is a bit of a mess right now, something which can be fixed. The more confidence AlSal shows in Webb, the more confidence Webb will have in himself.

Hey dudem chill out. Does the fact that Salazar praised Webb's talent level in ENGLISH have anything to do with whether or not we have to buy into it? While I think this argument can go both ways (and right now I would put my money on Salazar having Webb ready in a year) it does not good to act like a complete dillweed who believes everything he hears just because I understand the words.The bible has long since been translated into English...
