Can Solinsky be the first non-african under 7:30 @ Rieti?

I wouldn't bet against him. Every race I keep thinking no way he can continue to amaze, and then he does ...

Doesn't 7:29.999 officially count as 7:30.00, so not really sub 7:30?

I'll be the first to say no. Well, I guess I shouldn't say no to the question "Can he," rather the question "Will he..."

Solinsky will not go under 7:30. I won't claim to be an expert of statistics in T&F, but I do know that running 7:30 is neither easy nor common and the truth is, Chris would probably have run around that time today in Berlin. Expecting another race of that distance to meet the ideal conditions needed for that run in such a short time is, IMO, silly. The track world does not function for the hopes and dreams of the Big White Whale.

However, I also would have put doubt into him breaking 13 numerous times this year for the same reason, so WTF do I know?

Can he yes, will he....more then likely yes!

His times from this summer are enough proof alone that he is in that type of shape.

I have run Rieti. Great low key atmosphere, but definitely not short

I remember reading something that the way the track in Rieti is situated geographically, there is a prevailing tailwind on the back straightaway, and with still air (no wind) on the home stretch, or vice versa.

I'd love to run there someday if they have open meets. Definitely one of the true "small temples" of track and field along with Heusden-Zolder and Stanford.

Another great track to run super fast on for long distances is the track at the Nihon Aerobics Centre in Chiba Japan.

Mottram has run 8:03.50 for 2 miles

You got to be around 12:58-13:02 shape to run 7:30, Solinsky is a little better than that so he could probably dip just under. Problem is that there aren't many opportunities to do it, after all those good days, he's bound to have a bad race and this might be it.

12:52 is a better number to relate to 7:30.

Solinsky is probably around 7:32 if he runs well.

Solinsky is capable of sub 7:30. Kennedy ran 7:30.8 off 12:58 fitness. Are we splitting hairs and walking a tightrope. . . sure. He needs 2:31, 2:32, 2:26(with a 55.x) for his style. Given the lack of consistent rabbits, as we had in the 90's, the 5:03 split might be in question. Otherwise, a 7:32 low in a poorly rabbited race is in order. Probably much more likely . . .

I think that most of you overestimate what it takes to run sub 7:30. Solinsky has all of the tools needed.
