With one month of practice and coaching, how far do you think Shaq can throw the 16 lb shot putt? With his height and strength I would have to say 58 feet.

Is the shot putt some kind of combination of shot put and golf?
at least 10 feet.
Are you crazy? Shaq couldn't even throw 50 feet in the shot. Some of you idiots don't realize how athletic the shot putt event is. We aren't just a bunch of slow, fat overweight guys out there. We aren't sumo wrestlers bumping our fat stomach against each other. We are real athletes! I give Shaq 49 feet max.

Yeah, you use a 30 pound putter.
Shaq is way to big to throw (put?) the shot.
Even using the glide a 7 footer would be cramped in the 7 foot circle.

Sumo wrestlers are pretty good athletes, actually.
Shaq can throw the 16 lb shot putt farther than Will Dembo ever threw it. We all know that for a fact!
Wilt had the State shot put record when he was in high school according to this. He was 7'1".
Probably somewhere in the 40 foot range. Shot is a technical event and you don't throw it, you put or push it. It takes time and practice to learn how to do it. He could probably just stand and throw it, gliding would be tough....
bronco - I think you have the right idea. But he is one powerful, powerful guy. 50 feet seems very realistic.
shaq would come out to the track at LSU to check out the female sprinters... he picked up a shot and tried to throw - it went about 40 feet at most.. good dude though!!
With one month of training Shaq could throw a 16lb shot 44'8'. With one year of training Shaq could throw a 16lb shot into a basket 15 feet away 27% of the time.
The way Shaq shoots free throws I question if he'd be able to keep the shot inside the putting section.
This is a good post and one to which I have the following well thought out response, "SUCK IT Shaq!!!!"
Need I say more?
Shaq could bench 450 lbs, and was a professional athlete. He's not slow, or really fat either. He is a real athlete probably better than you.

Why does everybody believe that Shaq is super strong? He would suck at the shot put. Barkley is way stronger. Here is a video of them bench pressing and for the record, Shaq is a weakling compared to Barkley.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WZIp4daEO1IShaq is huge and explosive. The skinny college Shaq was 300 lbs and had a 36" measured vertical. He could have been a really good thrower if he worked at it. 6'10" basketball player Kevin Bookout was the #1 high school shot guy (I think), so tall guys can throw.
Furthermore, Shaq couldn't budge 405 off his chest.
