I think it's the dumbest event in track and field!
I think it's the dumbest event in track and field!
It would be interesting to know how it became an event
Obscure, but an awesome event.
One of the prettiest, most graceful events in TF, unless your idea of pretty is running in circles!

Agreed. About the only thing I've seen to match it is the hammer throw.
Seriously.
The triple jump's a trip. That's what great about this sport. No other sport has such a multitude of different disciplines designed to showcase the variety in human physiology. The TJ is the clink of the glass in the toast to Track and Field.

Track and field is said to be descended from games "war" games. One of my friends speculates that triple jump comes from people trying to get over the moat to a castle by running and jumping and then stepping on the heads of alligators in the moat

I would assume your frendo is correct. BTwayside, does your handle refer to Pedro from the attraction known as "South of the Border" in Dillon South Carolina?
Back in the early days of the Modern Olympics, there used to also be a standing broad jump.
The triple jump is awesome. So fun to watch, especially in person - it's pretty damn amazing that people do it without destroying their bodies.
it's worth noting that it is a shitty talent-magnet compared to the "proper" jump
tj = ( pi - 1 ) * lj
Triple jump and pole vault are by far the most technically difficult events. The two require high levels of speed, quickness, explosiveness, timing and agility. I don't know how TJ originated but I agree it is a probably the most beautiful event.

Shut the hell up eldrick. Your stupid equations were played out on the T&FN board and they're even worse here.
No one is impressed by your ability to randomly work "pi" into a place it has no business being.
listen moron
i have no idea who you are referring to
as for pi, it is clear you are an idiot of the 1st order
a lj is essentially an arc of a circle of the c o m - pi
a tj is 3 consecutive arcs of different circles of the c o m - pi
pi is going to be integral to the conversion factor of 1 discipline to another
it also gives the 3 "ideal" phases of the tj :
pi - 2 / 1 / pi - 2
this woud help a tj'er to work out weakness in his phases & even work out their potential "ideal" jump
Any event where the greatest ever practitioner is a famous evangelical-turned-athiest is a gift to the world.
I would guess Texas A & M cares about the TJ as they get a s**tload of points in it every year thanks to Van"O"tagen, I know I spelled his name wrong. It just makes me laugh the way he says it.

Eldrick, you used to use this same stupid argument over on the other boards. Why do you constantly pretend to have no idea about your previous posting antics? I mean, I understand that since you got banned maybe you're not too proud of it, but everyone knows who you are and your annoying posting style doesn't exactly blend in with the crowd.
You know exactly to whom I'm referring. There aren't that many whackjobs out there trying to force the events in our sport into neat little equations.
old hop-step 'n' jumpers do.

Agreed, but it's "atheist."
From
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jonathan_Edwards_(athlete) :
In an interview in The Times on 27 June 2007, Edwards said: "If there is no God, does that mean that life has no purpose? Does it mean that personal existence ends at death? They are thoughts that do my head in. One thing that I can say, however, is that even if I am unable to discover some fundamental purpose to life, this will not give me a reason to return to Christianity. Just because something is unpalatable does not mean that it is not true." Furthermore, in the interview with The Times he also stated "When you think about it rationally, it does seem incredibly improbable that there is a God." In the same interview he also said "I feel internally happier than at any time of my life." Edwards confirmed his rejection of Christianity in an interview on BBC Radio 5 Live on 29 July 2007.
