Hi all, was just wondering on some input about the progression of times for the 5k. The workouts my team and I have been focusing on:
4-10 mile threshold/tempo
3-5x 1600m
5-8x 1000m
10-16x 400m
12-16x 200m
We started the base phase with just easy mileage, then we threw in the 10 mile threshold runs (which we are still doing), and 5x mile. We're soon to be dropping the mile repeats in favor for 1000m repeats until the middle-beginning of October when we start to sharpen for our big meets at the VERY end of October. When we start to shift to the faster stuff we doo 4-6 mile tempos, 12x400m, etc.
Anyway! My question is what sould my progression of times be in my workouts, if my goal for the 5k is 16:15 or faster?
Some extra info for those who are curious; we do all the repeats on grassy, rolling hills except the 200's which are on a field, and 400's which are on a track (also, our final sharpening workouts: 3x mile, 5x 1k, 400's, tempo, are all done on the track).
Fastest average for workouts so far:
10 mile: 59:51
5x mile: 5:47
16x 200: 32 high
Any questions? comments?
