How much effect does it have according to the scientists? Isn't there a conversion scale out there somewhere? I don't recall it being a major conversion at 800m.

Just found NCAA conversions. It appears by their standards, Nairobi would be approx 1 second conversion. Impressive.

NCAA conversions would be wrong for Nairbi. 5500' at Nairobi has more oxygen than 5500' in North America.

At the poles there is little angular inertia to "throw" the atmosphere outwards like there is at the equator. Coupled with the fact that cool air sinks, the atmosphere at the poles is about half the height that it is at the equator.
Mountain climbers are aware of this phenomenon. You can climb higher on mountains near the equator without supplemental oxygen than you can in the higher latitudes.
I don't but that this has a huge effect.

No you are not. You are at an advantage running the 100m or 200m period.
Interesting. I figured it had something to do with their location relative to the equator. I'm guessing then, that at 800m there is little effect. Since the 800m is only about 30% aerobic anyway (and even less at that pace), it seems there should be little effect.
800m is "break even"
