ok so it has not been officially released yet, but it has pretty much been confirmed that Coach Millar will be hired as head coach. I am very excited to have Millar at Wake after reading his bio on the ND site. as an athlete at wake I am very interested to hear what people think about Millar as a coach. primarily, I am wondering who he will coach. I am a mid distance runner and would love to be coached by him. does he have any background with mid distance?
I would ask him, since he's your coach.

He is going to be missed at ND! Coach Millar is an outstanding hurdle and mid-distance coach. Jack Howard was an average 800m runner, who became an all-american indoors and ran a life time best at the NCAA Regionals! You and everyone on the team should be very excited!
it would be a little nosy to go ahead and ask him how he will run my team before it is even officially announced. it is also good to hear what other people know/think about him.
nd: that's is great to hear! I was not sure whether he coached mid distance. I'm looking forward to getting started with a new program!

Solid coach , well educated in the sport of track & field , excellent distance & mid distance knowledge ( miler as an athlete as I recall ) background , world class speed and strength coach , top notch hurdle coach. Hidden gem that stayed under the radar at ND. Great opportunity for John and Wake !
I think some of these posts are from Millar.
There was a past thread in which a Notre Dame alum raved about Millar as a quality coach. He sounds underrated and did the best he could being a sprint coach at a distance-dominated school. Now he finally gets the opportunity to be the head guy, and all the rejects are trying to unfairly fault him. Give the man a chance. He's paid his dues.

Georgia's Mike Pigg is still in the running.
There seems to be a general understanding that millar has been offered and accepted the job on this site and from a few other sources. our team is ready to give millar a shot and I have not heard a single bad thing about him. there seems to be some uncertainty among the posters but there has been no reason for this uncertainty. From what I have read in his bio and heard from a number of people, millar is a great coach and we are excited to get him. coaching a kid from 1:56 to 1:48 is a big deal and just one example of his coaching ability

I agree he sounds great - for mid distance. Is a miler/ sprint coach someone who coaches (or can coach) distance? Is he going to coach the cross country team and kids running 8Ks and 10Ks - what is his experience level in this area?
At Notre Dame Millar was a good sprint/hurdle coach. ND only recruited one or two sprinters/hurdlers a year. He had success coaching 400 and 400 hurdles with both sexes. His son - a runner - graduated from ND in 2008 so maybe it was time for him to move on. Piane coaches the distance runners. Millar's 800 meter coaching was mostly with 400/800 meter runners rather than 800/1500 meter runners. I assume he'll need someone to coach distance and XC - if he gets the job.
Lets put it this way.
He coached a guy who ran the 110 hurdles in beijing last year
He coaches the Big East indoor 400 womens record holder
He coached an 800m all american last year.
He ran sub 4 himself.

pretty sure if you don't even know the coach's name (its Jeff Pigg not Mike), you have no idea what you are talking about.
Maybe its both Pigg and Millar - distance and sprint. Who knows since the school is still hush hush and the athletes have not heard yet.
I can guarantee you that Pigg is not going to Wake with Millar. Why would he take a probable pay cut to remain as an assistant coach at a school with an incredibly crappy distance team?
So whose taking over at ND?
