So who was making a good living running in 1983?

    According to an article by Eric Olsen in The Runner (June 1983), the following made anywhere from a "decent" to "substantial" incomes, with just a few making "real" money and a few more "comfortable."

    The article said the majority of runners getting money "are depositing a few hundred now and then in prizes - or rather, in developmental funds - and withdrawing them the next day."

    I am pretty sure Steve Scott could be added to that list. With his shoe money, endorsement income, appearance fees and prize money, he was close to if not over six figures. He mentioned in his biography, he had $20,000 in cash stolen from his room at the end of a running tour of I think Austrailia/New Zealand in the early 80s.
