With all the hype (deserved) surrounding Andrew Wheating's accomplishments, I can't imagine what the hype would have been like (on the internet...letsrun.com) after Tony Parrilla ran 1:43.97 after his sophomore year at Tennessee to make the US team in the 800 in 1992 (edging George Kersh).
1:45 is fast, 1:43.97 is world class.
I checked the birthday. March 31, 1972. making him 20 years old at the time.
