Why has no one broken the mile record? It's been 11 years. Feel free to flame me but I'm genuinely asking.

Look at the guy who set the record, El Guerrouj. Have we seen anybody like him in the last 11 years? No. He dominated the 1500m and Mile. Runners of his calibur are very rare.
He is here. His name is Absel Kiprop. Be prepared
El Gerrouj was on EPO. Harder to get away with that now.

who is this man you speak of??? he sure didn't race today
I don't think you realize how much Kiprop would have to improve. 6 seconds is A LOT. Kiprop wont set the record.
Partly because it is not run that often. Partly because it is pretty damn fast.
I apologize ASBEL Kiprop, and 6 seconds would be a lot if we are to presume 3:49 is the fastest he can go AT THIS POINT. I know you are going to say, "he ran 3:49, that's as fast as he could have gone seeing as that's what he ran" However, I would like to argue that he could have ran AT LEAST 3:47 today. I think you are underestimating this young man. Watch him run and realize that he is something special.
he ran at Pre today and won!
Kiprop and a healthy German Fernandez are both really young and have a lot of talent to show the world. Take note, 2012 London Olympics, these two will go 1-2 in the 1500m. But who will win?

You are either a genius or a fool... please pick some powerball numbers for me I want to see how lucky you are.
German will not be running by 2012
1)You've got a 50-50 shot on me being a genius or fool..not bad odds
2) 8- 19 - 22 - 34 - 46 - PB 32

fernandez and kiprop on the same level? you sir are an idiot. fernandez is too busy doing 100 pushups, styling his fohawk and wiping chris derricks ass to be interested in competitive running right now. kiprop eats lighting and shits thunder and wins elite level/olypic races. think before you post.
If you're seriously going after the mile world record, you need to set the race up under lights (no direct sunshine--sometimes you can get good enough by running in a cool climate in overcast conditions but nighttime hours are more reliable) and you have to hope for no wind. The mile record will never be broken in broad daylight with breezy conditions as you saw in Eugene today. I'm also curious about barometric pressure. A great study topic would be to see how barometric pressure correlates with race times over different distances. A rabbit or two helps, too, of course--but they had those today.
And the mile record will be broken a whole lot sooner if the distance is contested more often.

I assume that the OP meant the 1500m also
Don't doubt a man with a stylish hawk and a facebook picture of himself licking something off a spoon staring into a camera.

He gets 3rd place, but on the inside he wins cause he has the coolest name cause 'Jager'meister :)
