You make a reasonable point.
BUT
I think the issue is that seemingly all the guys in the USATF 1500m final chose the same race strategy. Ditto for a number of other men's 1500m races. It seems unlikely that the same strategy would be the best for every runner in the race, no? So that strikes me as a reasonable question to ask/debate.

These are runners with little basic speed who are jealous of those with great basic speed. Somehow it does not seem fair to them that the very best runners can have endurance every bit as good as the plowhorses but can run a 200 in 21-23 seconds (depending on the distance they compete at)...
