Hasn't he done workouts faster than that? Why bother broadcasting someone's boring workout?

You could always show em how its done.
That was like watching the Lakers playing the Clippers and winning by two. Seeing a great team play down to the level of poor competition is not a good show, it's pathetic.
Was this your first track meet to watch? Don't give up; it gets better than this, I promise! Too bad you missed the AR not long ago.
What, did you expect him to go out there and try to run 26:50?
actually, yes. I mean..why not?

At this very moment Solinski is waiting around the house thinking everyone is running alone. Had Rupp thought to call him it would have counted as a tempo run.

Why not? Because it was too hot and humid for a 26:50 for one thing. And no one else in that field could go with him, so he would be leading the entire race, surely falling fall short of a sub-27 run. He could put the pedal to the metal, put a huge gap on the field, and run a 27:30. Which would have benefited him how? Granted, there isn't much on the line this year in terms of major championships, but with 2-3 months left in the season Rupp has plenty of time to get in some fast races and put the hammer down. As I said in a related thread, this race was obviously about showing up, getting the win, and getting paid. Mission accomplished.
Without the kick; more like a marathon prep run...
tempo run? ... perhaps. National Championship win - absolutely
Rupp is a big pussy. Give me a freaking break. You're the best in the field by over a minute; go out there and show it. You're on a different planet than the guys in that field; watching you sit on them is damn near embarrassing. Quit being a big pussy, Galen. You suck.
I would enjoy these tactical races much more if they just turned the clock off and then had them run.

He did show it...by winning the race.

Ok, I used to not be a fan of Rupp either, but this is getting ridiculous. You obviously haven't been a runner that long, or you would recognize that professionals are smart and don't waste their energy running a mediocre time when they could simply win the race in the most efficient way possible. In championships, winning is the goal, nothing else. I used to hate him for sitting on Chelanga in XC, but seriously, there is no one in that race that could run with him, so why bust your balls for a sub-par performance?
Rupp's pace for his 10k PR is 65.2/400. He's a 4 minute miler, so according to Joe Rubio's pace system, his tempo pace is 69.2/400, which equates to a 10k time of...28:50. So yes, this was a tempo run.
That being said, I'm not going to fault him for his tactics. As many have pointed out, the point at a championship is to win, and Rupp is the only top-tier guy to show up this year. Not that those other guys aren't tough, hardworking competitors, but it's clearly silly to suggest that Ed Moran or Patrick Smyth are the best 10,000 runners in the US.
Rupp could have hammered from 5-6 laps out and left little doubt, but being that it's his first race in nearly 2 months, it probably would have taken enough out of him that he could be flat at PRE next week (assuming he is racing there). Why would he want to do that? There was absolutely nothing to be gained for Rupp between 27:00 and 30:00 last night other than a win with a couple fast last laps to blow out the tubes. Period. There really was nothing else in it for him. Rupp has not raced and all out 1500 or mile outdoors in years, if he does that at PRE he has a great chance to really open it up.
What he did do was give everyone else a chance to beat him. They ran slow enough that someone should have been able to take a shot. It was on 29:15 pace with a few laps to go and nobody could hang except Moran. That is not Rupps fault it's theirs. They should have been able to challenge him a little more than that.
Maybe the dew point was rougher than we think.
The best runners only have 3-4 hard 10ks in them a year. That's just physiology. Why blow your load showing off when you don't have to?

Perspectivation: Maybe the dew point was rougher than we think.
It was about 105 degrees and 90% humidity after all.

I'm assuming sarcasm here, but Rupp actually said that it wasn't bad at all, so I really don't know how nobody other than Moran could have offered more in such a slow race.
Anyway, I guess Rupp is running in a B heat mile at PRE. A little surprised by that, assume he doesn't feel sharp enough for the A heat because I'm sure he could get into it if he wanted.
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
