He was ... tall. I've seen only two NBA games in my life, and he was in one of them. Visually stunning.
He apparently did a lot for the old country.

bumper cars
True stories: first time he tried to dunk a basketball, he really went for it...and ended up breaking his teeth on the rim. He had killed a lion with nothing but a spear. And I believe he's blocked 13 shots in a game, four in one play AND at FD in NJ, he had a HUGE triple-double with something like 32 points, 30+ rebounds and 11 blocked shots.
Too bad
Real nice guy
Did he have a disease related to how abnormally tall he became?
What was the official ruled cause of death???
RIP, NUTE.
I saw him play in the first ever NBA game I ever went to, Golden State vs. Utah back in 1990. He appeared to be a gentle soul.
According to wikipedia, he had kidney issues from stevenjohnsons sydrome or SJS, some painful skin condition. They think he contracted the SJS from some medication he took in Africa for the kidneys? (Not pretending to understand this)
Remember seeing him playing for the GS Warriors back in the day. Was at a game where he launched some threes, and the crowd went wild when he made one.
The article I read also stated that 6 years ago his neck was broken in a taxi accident where the cab driver was unlicensed and drunk. I don't remember any news stories about that at the time. R.I.P.
R.I.P...I remember watching him in basketball games growing up, and listening to a couple of his interviews. Sounded like a really good person, with a fantastic life story.
Yes, I remember the car accident.
I remember seeing an article about his life after the NBA. Seems he lived in near poverty because he had given most of his money to Sudan to help his fellow countrymen. A very selfless man who did a lot to help others. You don't see that among professional athletes very often.
the dunking Dinka- trivia - where did he go to college?
university of new haven (in connecticut for those saying, where?)
Nope, U of Bridgeport. You got the state right, though.

I don't know how you got the college wrong after someone posted a video of the college game he got 31 blocks in it.
some of his stat lines are absurd...

you can look at the boxscores of his games for every year since 85-86 season. baller, and a really cool guy to boot. R.I.P.
Darryl Dawkins once said of Manute, "If he fell down he would be halfway home."
Manute was a big trash talker - always in good, sporting fun - saying stuff like "You no dunk on me. I dunk on you" to the biggest name stars. And they all loved and respected him.
As a shot blocker/changer he was a force to be reckoned with.
R.I.P Manute. You'll be remembered.
