Christophe Lemaitre the great white sprinter from France just ran 10.02s in the European Team Cup finals. Only 20 y.o and a new PB. Lemaitre is the future of sprinting and hopefully when he does a sub 10 clocking it will bring a new dawn to T&F and more diversity to the sprints because others will see that if he can do it he can do it too.

have to give dabs for that - 10.02 is good for a 20yr old black sprinter. He will surely break 10 given good conditions later in the season (Paris, Lausanne etc etc)
He is French so he is on steroids and EPO.
Lemaitre beating Bolt (or Gay or Powell) is as likely as a Shanequa winning the nobel prize in physics.
What you might keep in mind here is that Lemaitre ran 10.04 as a Junior last year.

Justin Gatlin

31 Years ago Pietro Mennea ran 19.72 and held the WR for 17 years. To this day, it is still the 20th fastest 200 ever run, and only 7 black sprinters have run faster--in 31 years.
AFTER (yes, on the SAME DAY) running 19.72, he ALSO ran 10.02!
Without question, on modern tracks, that 10.02 would be worth sub-9.9, and God only knows how fast he could have run the 100 without running the 200 first.

He looks possibly clean, none of that Bolt-ed on musculature. Weird. Haven't seen sprinters like that since the early days of Carl Lewis.
Mennea ran on a modern track when he ran those times, and they were at significant altitude in Mexico City. They are what they are. More impressive is his 19.96 at low altitude, and that he ran the 200m final in 4 straight Olympics.

The Australian 100 metre record is 9.93 held by Patrick Johnson. Patrick is part Irish, part Australian Aboriginal. Although his skin colour is dark he is not in any way a "Black Sprinter" in the way you guys mean (African heritage).

Menea was also notorious for running out of his lane, and was DQ'ed for it on numerous occasions. T&FN even had a pic of him well within the adjacent lane. He was so brash about it that most European officials did not want to countenance the idea that their "golden boy" was in fact cheating.
Was he talented? Absolutely. You don't run 10.02 on good looks. But in the 200, he was....Pietro...
