I've recently completed by 3rd marathon, all of which have been relatively small/medium in field size(600,2900,7500). Do you believe the size of the field has a significant effect on your finishing time?
I've run mid 2:30s for each marathon, and have an end goal of sub-2:30. My fastest marathon was actually in the race with approx. 600 people (all courses relatively the same difficulty level). I'm wondering if I'm missing a big opportunity by sticking to the smaller sized marathons, and am curious as to whether I should focus on a New York, Chicago, Twin Cities, etc in order to reach my goal.
With that said each of these marathons has been sold out for months now, as such, I'm also searching for some recommendations in the October/November timeframe. I've considered Detroit, Richmond & Baltimore, and it appears Richmond might be the best bet. (Note: I've completed Philadelphia last year, and don't wish to repeat). Any advice is greatly appreciated.
