Thanks for the responses and the reassurance that I wasn't alone in my thinking that the Buffalo race director is a cheap bastard.
BTW, the race was very lame. From the very small packet p/u expo that was only open for eight hours, the train that stopped the race for 7 minutes, the lack of road closures/traffic control, the tour of the blighted shuttered factory area of Buffalo, the hide/seek of mile markers, only one timing mat on the course and no clocks and the finish line food of warm half banannas and oranges.
One more thing, the website said that you could register online for $80 until Saturday, but they closed online registration on Tuesday.
Yes, I would avoid the Buffalo Marathon
