I'm definitely not as thin as most distance runners...I'm 5'8 140lbs. However, every now-and-then someone will comment on my size and say I'm too skinny and I look like I need to eat something.
What is the best way to respond to a comment like this? (especially since I am healthier than the people making these comments...) I personally think it is sad that "normal" is now considered to be slightly overweight.

I just keep stuffing my face with cheetos
I show them how ripped my stomach is and then do 100 pushups for them. Then I still them they are too fat.

True. I find it difficult to find clothes, and I don't consider myself that skinny. I went looking for 30WX32L pants at a JCPenney sale the other day and realized 3/4 of the Men's Department is "Big & Tall," trajic.

Translation: I show them my emaciated frame and do 5 pushups for them before falling flat on my face due to extreme exhaustion. Then I whimper.

I'm 5'9" 150# and I get this kind of crap too. Most of them are slightly overweight people who are just giving me a friendly ribbing, so I can handle their attempts at "humor". I usually tell them that I'm actually at a normal healthy weight, but our country as a whole is so fat and unhealthy that they don't understand what "normal" is anymore. Is this not the truth?
I don't respond, I run away and cry into my pillow at night.

This is true, but I hesitate to say this to the individuals who label me "skinny," because though they are pudgy, they are still social acqautinces.
1. if i have headphones on i dont care
2. if they are older people who can kick my ass i just waive the finger as i keep on running bc worst comes to worst..ill need to go into 5min mile pace for 100m to outrun most people.
3. if i can kick their ass ill stop running...go up to them..and say whats the problem. they usually shut up.

Why is it acceptable to make comments on someone's weight if they are skinny but not if they are fat?

I smile. I smile because I know, over time, I will degrade gracefully whereas my pudgy onlooker will age like a Ford after 100k miles.
We, as runners, don't realize the benefits of all that running until we're much older. Not having that heart surgery sure will leave a lot of extra $$ for retirement, won't it?

I say, "you gotta look like the kenyans if you want to beat them". Everyone always says in that case I'm going to need to get a can of black spray paint. As if being normal weight wasn't bad enough, I'm very white. I can't win!
really, because I'm about 10-15 pounds over weight.
