Will he break 4 minutes by the end of his high school career?

No, he'll focus on the tri for 2012 and stop running track.

Did you even watch his recent interviews?! He plans on breaking German's 2 mile record and probably the 5k, then running xc in college
Is there not an age limit on highschool prep sports?
Was surprised to see he went through in 3:01.

Yes, there is. He won't approach that age though.
In Ohio, if you turn 19 by August 1, you are not allowed to compete the following school year.

He's graduating a year early so he'll be just about the same age as everyone else.

no. For all intents and purposes, he is a junior. (actually, he is as old right now as German was as a senior). 4:04 is excellent, but I think he is pretty peaked right now. I could see him taking a shot at it next year and running 4:02. Outstanding, but no sub 4:00.
And yes, he will likely not compete his "senior" year (when he will be 19) in track, so next year is his (and should be) last shot at any records.
He won't best German's times.
I wish everyone would stop "hating" on the dude for his age. Now that he will graduate early (by taking 3 classes in summer school) he will be 18 when he graduates high school. He will turn 19 the fall of his freshman year in college. He's a wonderful athlete/runner and I hope he can continue to improve. My only fear is burn out from his intensive triathlon training year round. So far he has handled it intelligently and well. He intends to run XCountry in college and compete in triathlon the rest of the year - hey! There are no Kenyan swimmers so I'd try that too if I had his ability!
He's capable, and I sure hope he can do it!

1) Not his fault GF was young for his age, and would have been a jr his sr year in all but about 2 states. So leave that crap out of it
2) Peaked? What in your small brain makes you think that? Is it that he just started his outdoor season after takin some time off from a stress fracture? Or that he just ran his first real track race? (and winning).
He's just a kid. Amazing stride. When he puts on some muscle over the next 3 years or so, I wouldn't be shocked to see him
run extremely faster- certainly not at his peak. It's not unthinkable to see him run under 4 next year, though the real question will be if he stays with running on the track only. He has quite a tremendous future in whatever direction he chooses!

What does this mean, anyway?
I'd hate to see this kid choose a tricked-up sport like triathlon over running, but if his focus is on making an Olympic team and getting an Olympic medal, it would be an understandable choice.
track aint where its at these days. essentially, track is for losers.

Fernandez is young for his grade. He should have graduated high school in 2009, not 2008, same with Derrick I believe (could be wrong though).
Verzbicas WAS a year behind, now that he is graduating in 2011 all is right and he is in the correct grade.
I was at the meet - he looked like a pro in a field of high schoolers. And he split the race exactly right, unlike the insane girls' race that went out in 64. I think his is a durable talent. Smart and fast.
He did look good. The 3:01 split was the 1200 meter split, so he had further to run the last lap.
Is the video up yet??
For a while now
out of curiousity at what age do kids in the USA start school, I heard from a friend of mine who lives in Texas that parents will start their kids a year later so that they will be older than normal during high school years for sports
