Another Oregon conspiracy.
Another Oregon conspiracy.
Whine whine whine. Lets talk about Andrews obvious EPO use. What a cheating scumbag!
"ensuring"
1:45.54 as a freshman. gonna be a great final!
Awesome to run 1:45. Sucks not to even have you school record.
Sucks to be Charles Jock. 1:46.17 and don't even make the final!

Same goes for Wheating and his mark is over a half second faster. He can go 1:42 and not have his school record!

Sucks to run fast and not make the final, especially the first man out, but I think we all knew that several 1:46 guys wouldn't make the final.
It also sucks that heat 3 apparently had a sh@t storm come in after heats 1 and 2 were almost perfect conditions and fast races.
Jock of course knew that both Andrews and Primm were in his heat. He did the best he could do, which was to go our really hard. Just wasn't quite good enough.

And he got help from the Oregon kid. Basically if you were a 1:46 guy coming into this meet you had to be having an "on" day to get to finals.
Be interesting to see the season best marks of guys who didn't get into finals.
Correct about the storm. Nothing to do right now (I'm at the meet) except post on letsrun.
Andrews time appears to be the #3 US Junior at 800m ALL TIME. Right ahead of him is Jim Ryun.
Look Out!
Whoops! wrote: "ensuring"How would you know whether Thompson bought insurance to ensure a FAST heat was run, or he wanted to ensure a FAST heat was run by running fast? The insurance could be anything; conspiring with other runners; paying off the officials; etc.

That is the way Thompson runs, he has went out just as fast in his last three races. No conspiracy going on there.
Post race interviews are up.

http://www.runnerspace.com/eprofile.php?do=videos&event_id=150&video_id=28287You are half correct; the conditions for heat three were decidedly worse than heat one. However, it was already raining for heat 2 and the wind was strong for all three heats. None of these heats were in anywhere close to ideal conditions; the NCAA 800 is simply the deepest it has ever been.
You are correct. Thompson did not throw off the race, the guy just goes for it. Thank GOD there are guys who take it out hard and don't look back!!! Enough of this tactical BS. Lets race.
Congrats to everyone who made it on, this was one super intense semifinal and you are all awesome competitors!!!!
Jock was also out there pushing the pace. And what you see here (if you are here) goes along with what you can see Saturday in the New York Diamond Meet with three American sub-4 1500 ladies plus Rowbury and other Olympic medalists all in the same race....and the Ethiopian doesn't appear to have much of a chance against the four white Americans.
The USA is now #1 in the world in middle distance, and people like Andrews--now ahead of Sebastian Coe in the 800 at the same age--will make us stronger.
This isn't you Uncle's (or your Father's) middle distance squad.

Deepest field, possibly....but it'd be a different story had there been another round. It's easy to show up and race hard and get into the final. Hard comparison to make, but nothing to take away from what these guys did today.

No this was part of that evil gangster Vin Lananna's plot to make Andrews run hard and wear him out for that final....
