1:45.54
1:45.54
Thompson and Jock took it out in 50.mid
Andrews was WAY back w/ 100 to go but blew buy them. Crazy fast heat, 3 guys sub 1:46
normally i'd say way to fast for a prelim but everyone was around 1:46 so he kinda had to
wheating qualifies smart in a 1:48 2nd heat was one in 1:46 with greer in 3rd

It was hard to tell for sure because the feed is pretty grainy but it looked like the weather got nasty for that last heat. I saw umbrellas going up so I'm pretty sure it started dumping. Not sure if it got windy as well.
yea its deffinetly raining now
why is the live results link so gosh darn slow.
wow, i'll say, track is soaked. it looked like it got windy for that last 800 heat of the men, just going off peoples hair and face expressions. kind of sucks for those hoping for a shot at qualifying by time especially after the first heat looked so nice and was blazing.
Wheating is to Puskreda is to Rue McClanahan is to Golden Girls - DONE!!!!

I'm not sure if you are saying Andrews didn't qualify smart but he did what he had to do to make it to the final. He has to respond to the race that happens and he did that by winning in a new PR and collegiate leader. Wheating's heat knew it would be pretty damn hard to get a time qualifier and every 800 runner thinks they can kick so it went out slow and set up for Wheating to kick hard and win, pretty much his MO.
I can't wait until the final, it's going to be awesome and I really hope someone takes it out so we could see either another 1:45 or possibly a sub 1:45.
True stuff, i think if andrews is recovered enough by the final we could see a 1:44 to win it
wheating has to be pumped that he only had to run a 1:48 to win with the 1500 double coming up. though with the weather it might have been a bit more effort than that.
I don't think he was saying that, and FYI it started pouring during the last heat. I think the wind picked up as well. That more than anything is probably why it didn't go out fast. A fast 800 with a days rest now should be no problem for Andrews. I was surprised how good Primm looked at 1:45 after his 3rd or 4th place Pac-10 finish.

Jock ran 1:46.1 and didn't qualify out of that heat, so tell me how Andrews should have ran that race.
EASY guys i never said robby did anything wrong i just said wheating was smart considering he has a double, talk about bandwagons..

He wasn't smart, he just got in the right heat. Again, nothing against Wheating but you can only race against what the others in your race do. Wheatings heat was slow which plays to his strength. Andrews had to run fast to get in the final. Don't think it will matter to either one, final will be sweet.
You can see most of the heat here...
I want him to do well. If he doesnt win Friday, so what, Wheating is an Olympian and probably should win. He hasnt PRed since the trails 2 years ago, he is due. I love Robby, if he wins or not, what a great season and he has still be spectacular all year.
Imagine if Robby does Junior USAs/Worlds...that would be cool to see him try to get the gold.
I have to say, and I'm an Oregon guy, that Andrews is better than I thought. I still think Wheating will beat him, but WOW, is he an exciting talent.

same here- I was at the meet yesterday and I thought Andrews was toast with 100 meters left. Then the KICK off of a fast pace for 1:45.54. This guy is for real. Wheating looked incredibly in control too. Should make for a great final. Good to see another American talent emerge.
Anyone conjecture that maybe Thompson (Oregon) took Andrews out fast and maybe him run a fast time on purpose? Maybe take a little out of him before the final? That said, I was impressed with how patient Andrews was then his speed when he dropped the hammer.

No, that has becomes Thompsons strategy, training with Wheating he knows he can't outkick him but he did nearly take a race this spring by going out hard. He probably figured he might be able to get away from Andrews if he went out hard, not knowing Andrews was capable of 1:45.
Also, this was his first outdoor NCAA's and he was running at Oregon as a duck, prolly a bit much adrenaline out of the gates for him.
