Oh, it's great. Just not sensational enough for the overzealous board members here such as yourself.
What are the 1600/3200 equivalents?
By my estimating formula, the 1500 turns into:
4:20.21 for the 1600
4:21.81 for the mile
Solid, but not great. All a question of how much training has been done to this point.
The 3000 turns into:
9:32.88 for the 3200
9:36.42 for the deuce.
The 1500 is significantly better.
What is your definition of great? Age group record holder? My God, the kid put down a double that would warrant respect from DI coaches if he were a Junior. No, he may not be the best frosh in US/Canada, but those times certainly indicate he is among the top 10/20, right? Outstanding work, and good luck to the kid in the future.
Sidenote: I wish Letsrun had less pompous a$$holes
This kid would be top 20 at least in a lot of state meets in the country, and in the province meets (do those exist?) in Canada as a freshman. His times kick my ass and I'm a year older, and I bet he'd beat all of you when you were freshman and might even beat you now
Actually, the kid would win >50% of the us state meets with that time. Not really sure what alter world the letsrunners exist in.
8th place in the 3200 in the California State yesterday meet was 8:59.88 by 10th grader, which is the equivalent of about 8:25 for the 3K.

The poster above said >50%... California is 2%, with a much higher percentage of the population.
I'd go out on a limb and say he's better than >90% of the US/CAN high school competition at his age... >80% of the total US/CAN high school competition.
By the time he graduates, he'll be 4:03 for the 1600 and 8:55 for the 3200, or better. You've heard it here first.

A guy like Jason Bunston ran 4.04/8.55 to win Midget at OFSAA in his day (1986 and G9) and that's when you had to run two 1500's in a day - it was a two-day meet. He went on to a good HS/Junior career (many OFSAA medals/3.45 at World juniors) and College at Arkansas (won NCAA 5000 indoors). Stephenson "seems" to have that ability as long as he continues to improve, but anything can happen along the way.
The other midget (Freemantle) ran a good 800m as well (1.56), amongst the best for G9 ever - although nowhere near Sullivan's 1.53 at the same age. Again means little unless/until progression is commensurate in subsequent years. Some of the younger girls ran fast as well (2.13,4.36,10.05), but again let's see how their running progresses in the next few years.
