Solinsky was right behind Chepkok and in front of Kipchoge, Soi, Kisorio. It just shows on any given day, anyone can be on and win a race.... or a 12:51 guy one week can be a 12:56 or 13:09 guy the next.
I would argue that Solinsky also could have finished higher. He was too far back when the kicking began. If he was positioned right with Lagat with 300 to go, he probably would have finished 4th, and would have been 12:55 high. Again, Lagat was in perfect position when it mattered. Has there ever been a better tactician then Bernard Lagat?
And before anyone says Solinksy never had a chance and consequently will never have a chance, looking at today alone, you would say the same thing about Chepkok or Kipchoge. But I think anyone who knows anything about TnF would agree that those guys could medal at the big dance some day. So why not Solinsky.
I'm calling right now a medal for Solinsky in 2012... in the 10K. 13:35/13:19 for a new AR 26:54. Rupp will finish 5th. 2 Americans in the top 5 in the 5k... Lagat and Teg.
