if he had to drop out of a hal-marathon in Ny because his asthma flared up, why would he sign on to do the full?
$$$$ perhaps?
maybe we'll see wanjiru in berlin now - although it's kinda sad reading the stories about losing his form and hanging with hooligans
I have an entry this year, but won't be able to run. This is about as good a silver lining as I can imagine.

My understanding is that his asthma flareups are allergy-related. Which is why he won't run London again, for example. Apparently allergies won't be an issue for him at that time of year in New York.
Definitely $$$$, but also the NY half was in the spring. Not nearly as much pollen in November.
This makes me wonder if Geb realizes his WR-setting days are over.

It might - noone runs NYCM for time, so this could be a way for him to win another major without having to run 2:05.
Although if someone can run Boston in 2:05, maybe someone can run NYC in 2:06.
Yipes.
I just hope this won't deplete the appearance bonus money. Would be sad to see Haile time trialing again.

Yep, there should be zero influence of pollen on running in November. Right now, there is.

If Noone runs NYCM for time, what are some of his previous times.
Can you tell me what Noone's first name is so I can look up the times myself?
Am I the only one who wanted him to keep doing Berlin?
I think the only good thing out of this is it would be a good test to see how he'll do in London 2012 for a tactical marathon. If he wins New York, he will be invincible at the olympics.
However, I liked all of his time trial efforts: they resulted in a 2:03:59! Despite people's predictions, that mark is truly a dominant one that few people could touch if any.
Tergat was obviously pushed by his pacemaker to win Berlin when he set the WR, so it's a shame because it would've been nice to see Wanjiru breathing down Geb's neck in Berlin this year.
another example of why NYC is the premiere marathon in the world.

Thank you for the rim job.
Obviously a great payday for him as this is the first time I can remember him running on a course that was anything other than pancake-flat and blistering fast. NY is not a cakewalk of a course by any stretch.
That and he's probably checking off one of the great marathons from his to-do list before hanging up his flats.

I've seen this year's elite field as it currently stands and I don't think you will be disappointed.
Is there really any pollen in NYC during mid-March either? Stuff doesn't bloom around here until mid-April....
It wasn't pollen, but I believe the dust from all the horse crap in Central Park....
Bingo!
It was horse crap that plagued him at the NYC half. I was there and it was absolutely rancid... and pervasive.
Does this mean that Ritz will want to enter this race also?
Iam Happy and sad about this news at the same time.Happy bacause if everything goes on as normal then Halie will have to for the first time race the real big boys in the maratthon world i.e the likes of martin lel;the guys Haile has been dodging for the last few years. Iam also sad because Haile has managed to turn the NYC race directors into ass-lickers the same way he turned Berlin race directors.I had a lot of respect for NYC organisers but from now onwards not anymore.
Sad day for Meb and Ryan Hall.

First time ever? What are you some moron letsruner who only reads and writes anti-geb stuff?
Lets see...Haile runs his marathong DEBUT! against Tergat and KK...in a race where he runs the worlds best debut, but loses to KK who sets a then WR, and tergat who sets his best time ever at the time.
Then two london races, where he races Lel in both, among with numerous top names.
You're right though..he's never once in his life raced Lel or any top guy in the thon.
