Hello letsrun,
I have a question for all you internet running pundits. My roommate and I have a bet going, starting today (well, its been brewing for awhile).
We're both 24. I run a lot, I ran in high school, low 4:30s for the 1600, and I keep in shape as much as I can and still run about 17:20-30 for 5ks on a regular basis, without really training "for" them. I just run a lot.
My roommate, who is a little overweight by running standards, and has not run a step since I've known him (we've lived together since senior year of college, so 3 years this year). He CLAIMS that he ran a 4:19 in high school, which I think is impossible because he's never been able to verify that by showing me a result. He played a lot of soccer, I know, and was quite good, and he showed me some results in 400s and stuff, but I can't see any way he possibly ran 4:19. There would be results SOMEWHERE in distance events, right????
Anyway, he claims he definitely did, and although he's no runner, claims that via pure athleticism he could run fast again, so I bet him a month's rent that there is no way he can beat me in the mile a month from now. He has not run in a LONG time, and is not active in any way.
I figure, with a little speedwork, I can at least break 4:50. Even if he DID run a 4:19 6 years ago or w/e, there is no way he can break 4:50 off running for a month after all that time, is there? Can he possibly beat me? Am I an idiot for making this bet?
As part of our bet, he's keeping a blog, which I'll paste the link for in just a second.
He can't beat me, can he? He's probably just one of those kids who THINKS he ran a fast mile time, like there are so many of, but even so, I don't think he'd be able to beat me. He only has a month.
Thoughts?
