What is the difference between the two minus who the cover? I am purchasing one and wanted to know if it's worth spending a few exta bucks to get the newer edition.
Thoughts?

In the first one, it has training plans for 1500-3k, 5k-15k, and HM-marathon (if I remember correctly). So 3 plans total. Actually there might be 4 plans since I think there is a marathon plan A and a marathon plan B.
In the second one, he adds in a white plan, red plan, blue plan, and gold plan for beginners, a cross country plan, and a 800 meter plan (again, this is from memory). So the second book has the original 4 plans + the new 6 plans for like 10 plans total.
It's probably good for coaches who have lots of different runners, but the new additions didn't do much for me. I was fine with the original 4 plans.
Oh, he also introduces the concept of F pace (approximately 800 race pace), which I think is important. The fastest training pace mentioned in the first book is R pace (1500 pace).
Only other change I can think of is that the mini-bios in the original book are of old-school runners like Jim Ryun whereas in the second book is all "new" people like Sara Hall, the Hauser twins, etc. I liked reading about the older people better.
The easy run paces seem to be slightly different in the 2nd edition. Also like the longer run tempo paces (25 min, 30 min, 35 min, etc.) that are in the 2nd edition versus the standard 20 minute tempo.
2nd one is way better. he expounds upon the principles and adds a ton the VDOT charts are pretty different as well. i recommend the 2nd

Good point, I forgot about that.
I think the 800 meter plan, F pace, and longer tempos is enough reason to buy the second edition. And there may be other reasons that people will mention that I'm forgetting.
