Has anyone tried either of these workout programs. I've read that they give relatively good results. How would it fit in as cross training over the summer?

I've been doing P90X for about 3 weeks now and the results already show. Although all I did was the abs xD.
If you're looking to cross train just run and swim.
For p90x I would skip the cardio workouts since you will be running a lot. I would stick with their nutrition guide, but just not limit my caloric intake like they suggest. p90x combines workouts and dieting to get the desired 'ripped' results people want. The big thing is not to sacrifice any running to get these workouts in. Running is what is going to make you faster.
Run 60-80 minutes in the morning, lift an hour in the evening; repeat all summer, get in your miles and don't be scared of the weight room and you'll be a lean, mean, cross beast come fall
