In our state at alot of the non state series meets during the year FAT is used for some events, but for some reason in the distance events they won't or don't use it because as the timer told me, "all he needs are the places" for the scoring.
But, the times are off.
All the times on the Hy-Tek results sheet which are official read 4:xx.0...5:xx.0.
and that is what gets published.
They round everything up.
I had one freshman kid break 5 for the first time by my watch at 4:59.70 and of course it came out 5:00.0
I know that if it is hand timed, it has to be to the nearest 10th.
They use FAT for the sprints, but apprently don't use it for the distance events..?
Does anybody else out there experience this sort of thing at your events?
Should it matter that every 16 and 3200 meter kid get accurately timed?
I think so.
How does anybody else feel about this?
Maybe this is much ado about nothing by a frustrated coach?
