What a kick!
What a kick!
No way did he run the last 100 in 11.5. That's probably the 90m line that is on most tracks on the inside lane. Many tracks don't have a 100m mark on the inside lane as they enter the straight. Many have a mark at 110m and 90m. You have to take both and split the difference. It was more like 12.7; still a pretty good kick, but NO way was it 11.5!

+1, that was mostly Lee dying than Wheating kicking. 12.5 at the best. Still solid.
Just watched the race on the video on Lets Run.
Shame there isn't a running clock on screen. I hand timed the closing splits.
Had his last 400m at 55.0, last 300m at 40.4 and last 200m at 26.6.
You need to give or take 0.1 for hand timing.
I then took his closing home straight splits using the 2 yellow lines clearly sen on the track. And of course they were for 110m out and 90m out.
I did it twice and got the same 2 times:-
last 110m = 14.3
last 90m = 11.5
That gives a difference of 2.8 for those 20m. If you split the difference (1.4sec) and add that to 11.5 you get a last 100m of c. 12.9. Again, give or take 0.1sec.
Absolute fastest it could have been was 12.7, but more likely 12.8 - 13.0.
Good, but nowhere near 11.5. I don't think anyone has ever finished in 11.5. Even 12.5 is too fast for this sort of performance. A 12.8/12.9 last 100m is pretty par for the course in a 3:37/3:38 1500m for the elite.
11.5 last 100 meters, I just watched it. OMG!
That's good. Even more impressive is how Andrews would have run 11.4 in the last 100m had he been in the race.
Wow, that was a lot to calculate when all you had to do was time from the ORANGE PYLON that was clearly visable with 100m to go!But your math did come up with the correct time. I had 12.95 hand time, rounding up to 13.0.Last 400m: 14.4, 13.9, 13.9, 13.0 for 55.2. Without rounding my hand times were 14.44, 13.85, 13.86, 12.95 for 55.10.

maybe if he had that much left he should have gone earlier...you don't break records by waiting until the last 100

If that's the case he certainly would have snuck under :26 on that last 200 if he started kicking at 200 instead of 100.
That's a good last 200. I think Wheating's talent is not his last 100 because obviously others can do that, but what he can do from 200 out most cannot.

Lol! No, I didn't see it; wasn't looking for it actually. Thanks for clarifying that one. It's good to know that there are others with some common sense like yourself. Some people are still leaving messages saying it was 11.5!? Unbelievable.

I doubt that very much. If his last 100m was c. 12.9, just under 26.0 pace for 200m, and his penultimate 100 was in the 13.7-13.9 area, then it's logical that had he gone all out at 200m and run the curve in 12.9/13.0, he wouldn't have been able to hang on to that pace and run the straight as fast as he did.
26.5 possibly, but not under 26 at this stage. I think some people are getting a bit carried away.
Where is a video of the race?

Go to the LetsRun home page. It's the first video screen on the right hand side as you scroll down.

These are the 200m splits I got of Wheating minus the first 100m.

Why talk about records and then run you run 1000m of the race at 29.00+ pace. That ain't gonna get you sub 3:35.
What was Andrews' last 100m at Penn? I had him in 10.5, but that was from the checkered flag line (90?)
There are so many flags and lines all over the place, it's difficult to tell which line/flag represents what distance.
If the 1st set of yellow flags represents 110m from home and the second set represents 90m from the finish, then I got 14.0 for last 110m and 11.3 for last 90m. That would give a last 100m of about 12.65-12.7, which sounds about right for 1:47 runners.
Certainly 10.5 for last 90m (worth about 11.7) for last 100m is not really plausible for these guys.
Only Seb Coe could finish that face in a race. I love him.

What, grimacing? Not grimacing? Shaven? Unshaven? Pimply? Clear skinned?
