Are you sure he hasn't been using ExtenZe?
In all seriousness he sounds like a complete bastard. He shot the Coyote for looking at his dog!
You know little of coyotes.
wild, healthy coyotes do not stand there looking at you. they take off long before you get there or when they are looking at you, it is when they are leaving the area.
i live in a similar area - department of wildlife put down 4 coyotes near my house after attacks on people and dogs.
aggressive coyotes are not a problem on ranches and farms, because they get shot.
The article didn't mention it but I wonder if the coyote was wearing skates and a jet pack?
He carries a .380 with hollow tip bullets b/c he is "afraid of snakes"? He is going to shoot snakes? Uh, it's pretty easy to move a snake off the path with a stick.
People like Rick Perry are why I will never willingly spend time in Texas.
He should just let the snakes and coyotes attack him instead.

I'm getting to know a lot more about rednecks
The Governor of Texas eats, shoots and leaves.
I call BS on the story. This is just a PR stunt set up by the Perry campaign to make him sound like a tough SOB. There has long been speculation that Gov Perry is gay. He has had marital problems for a long time and there was talk about an affair with a male campaign staffer that had his wife considering a divorce.
I know people who have met him at fundraisers that did not involve the tea party nutbags. They reported Perry to be very nebbish and almost effeminate when away from those who expected him to be the tough-guy Texas politician. Cappin' a coyote is just a way to keep the myth of the super-tough Texan Governor alive.
And if he actually does carry a gun, it is not because of snakes. It is for his own protection. A few years ago, someone burned down the governor's mansion. There are plenty of Texas groups that make the Michigan militia look like a bunch of girl scouts. Even with all the tea party rhetoric, I am sure Gov. Perry gets piles of death threats from super right wing nut jobs.
Typical Letrsun retardedness.
A man with who had every legal and moral right to shoot a coyote... shot a coyote.
There is absolutely no foul here. Coyotes attack smaller dogs. He had a smaller dog that he didn't want to be attacked, so he shot the coyote.
And this is why you'll never spend time in Texas.
You won't exactly be hurting anybody's feelings, f***er.

Please read this closely.
This is what common sense looks like. I'm sure many of you are unfamiliar with it.
Please think about why we're hearing this story and consider the fact that Perry is a politician who is trying to maintain a manly image. I question whether this ever happened

I believe the coyote story 100%.
Now the bit about getting a pizza delivered to him in the middle of nowhere, rolling it up, and eating it... that's the part I'm not buying.
The silly part is how many think it's unusual to run with a .380 on board. I've seen it many times and heard from others over quite a few years. At 15oz or so, it's hardly even noticed, yet the protection is there if needed (for any reason). Perhaps it's a relection on society that this would even be an issue. Many situations where this might be a good idea for a man or woman. Urban or rural. True pussification of the culture (youth) I'm afraid.

If the coyotes were that innocent and would "take off long before you get there" then how was it close enough to shoot? Concealed handguns are small and therefore not the most accurate firearms in the world, so it had to be pretty close.
i see perry jogging and racing all the time here in austin and he always has a bodyguard with him and others nearby. i bet he either used one of the bodyguards guns or one of them actually shot it.
ive met him several times and he was not effeminine, though he was a cheerleader in college ... and a democrat.

Please read it closely again. It's called overkill (no pun intended). Packing heat on a jog? To kill snakes or coyotes?
I don't live in Texas but I see coyotes quite often on my early morning runs. The thought of carrying a pistol has never ever crossed my mind. I sometimes run on backroads and trails in Colorado where there are bears and mountain lions. Again, the thought of carrying a pistol has never ever crossed my mind.
What the rest of us (who supposedly have no common sense) realize is that if a person carries a pistol to go on a jog, the person seems to have some issues and over-reacts to situations. Not a good characteristic if you're governor of a big state that has a history of extremism.
