Andrews cut off Wheating?

Its a competition and as such a runner is supposed to do all that is within the rules to beat the competition. He did not touch Wheating, therefore he did not break any rules whatsoever. Congratulations to Andrews for flat out running Wheating. I would not say that Andrews owns Wheating, but it's happened twice now so its legit.

you can the rules re: impeding progress without touching someone, so that's not a good argument. Regardless, if you watch the video it looks pretty obvious that even if Andrews had wanted to illegally cut of Wheating, it would have been after the tape; Andrews was moving faster than Wheating the entire last 50m+ so even if he did pull in front of him, it would be really hard to call it impeding

was it lindegren or virgin who once did a dead stop in front of his competitor with 100 to go just to take off again and leave him in the dust?

I thought that I saw the same thing. Wheating needs to learn to race like a New Jersey kid, it may not be clean but it is effective. I think we will see a "tougher" Wheating in the future, as a result. This race may turn out to be a turning point in the talented Wheating's career. He may never again get beat by a punk.

this is correct. not a dirty race, just aggressive tactics all around.

If you watch the video you'll see that Andrews was pulling away from Wheating anyways, he was well around him when he cut back in.

Exactly. In the picture linked, Wheating has the entirety of lane 1 to pass if he had the ability to. Andrews just had his number, no doubt about it. Nothing Wheating could have done short of fouling Robby would have prevented him from winning.

I'm not impressed when someone beats someone else by holding on to a small part of a relay handoff lead.

That was exactly what I was thinking. If you look at the start of the leg, Andrews has several yards on Wheating. At the end, Andrews has given up half of his original lead. It doesn't take a nuclear scientist to figure out that Wheating covered the same 400 meters as Andrews, but in a slightly quicker time. I think some of the Andrews fanboys have gotten a little carried away.

Actually,Wheating and Andrews were dead even in the exchange zone but UVA had a better exchange giving Andrews a slight lead at the official start of the split. They were timed with the same split.

This was basically a dead even head to head race. No advantage to having a one step lead in the first meter of an 800m race.

Wheating sat on Andrews for 500m then passed him on the backstretch.

Andrews passed him back before the finish line.

Looking at again, Wheating was wide because he passed Foster going into the homestretch.

Andrews may have veered back a bit after clearing Wheating but he was clearly past, no cut off.

Asked Wheating if it really felt like a tie.

Epic races so far between Andrews and Wheating. Food for thought here...

Robby is a freshman, Wheating a senior. There has been no hesitation whatsoever from Andrews in his race tactics, and they've worked out for him. Kudos to him!

Also, why aren't we talking about the guy from UVA who went 1:46.xx in that relay? Where's he been?
